Third Quarter Grades Mailed Home this Week
We recently completed our third grading quarter. Grades will be mailed home to families this week.
State Testing - Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) and 8th Grade Science
Our staff is proud of our students and the learning growth they have made this year. We are looking forward to our students showing what they know on the state tests. We use these results to inform our teaching practices and design instructional programs for our students.
Our students’ performance on state tests over the years has contributed to SMS being considered one of the highest performing middle schools in the area.
Students will take the state tests in their core classes with their core teachers. Below are the testing windows. Teachers will notify students of their respective testing schedules; students will NOT be testing every day during these windows.
All Grades ELA SBA: May 1 - May 12
8th Grade Science Test: May 16 - May 19
All Grades Math SBA: May 22 - June 2
Lost and Found
If your child has lost clothing, water bottles, lunch boxes or other items please have them look over the lost and found racks and tables in the Commons. We will have our lost and found items on display until May 5.
New Voice and Video Intercom System
Most buildings districtwide are now operating the new intercom system, which features a remote door release function. As these intercoms bring about an extra layer of security, so are there extra steps you may have to take before entering the building. After pressing the intercom button, please be prepared to:
Give your name
State your purpose for visit
Show your photo ID

Reminder: Family Survey Deadline, April 25
We strive to provide the best possible education for all students. In doing so, feedback is critical in helping our schools continually improve. On April 11, the District emailed all families a link to a survey, inviting your sharing of perceptions about the job we are doing in providing a quality education for your child(ren).
Your survey responses, along with other research and analysis, play an important part in the development of each school’s annual improvement plan, which includes goals that are specific, data-driven and measurable.
Families with multiple children may complete one survey per child. If you don’t have an email address on file with the district, or if you didn’t receive the email message, use this link to access the family survey. Hard copies are also available at your child’s school.

Important SMS Information:
Call or visit: Our offices are open Monday - Friday, 6:30am to 3:30pm. Visit us or call 253-891-5000. Parents/guardians may schedule conferences with teachers/counselors at a mutually agreed upon time.
Email: A majority of our communication to families will be via electronic newsletters/emails. Please check Family Access to make sure we have a valid email address for you. Staff email addresses are on our website in the staff directory.
