PLC Expectations & Earning Professional Learning Points for 2025 PLC Expectations & Earning Professional Learning Points for 2025

Dear Team,

As we begin another school year, I want to take a moment to emphasize the critical importance of our Professional Learning Community (PLC) work—not only in terms of earning Professional Learning (PLN) points, but more importantly, in driving the kind of collaborative growth that leads to real improvements in student achievement.

PLCs are not just meetings—they are intentional, structured time for educators to engage in deep, reflective dialogue about teaching and learning. When implemented with fidelity, PLCs become a powerful tool for professional growth, curriculum alignment, and data-driven decision making. They are the engine behind strong instructional practices and directly influence the success of our students.

This year, PLCs are structured for a 20-hour course for the full year. Because we are utilizing Title II Funds to support our professional development, it's essential that our work demonstrates measurable outcomes and meaningful engagement. We can anticipate being asked for detailed documentation, and it is our responsibility to ensure the process reflects our commitment to high standards of teaching and learning.

In order to earn your 20 PLC points:

  • Each team member must keep track of:

    • Dates and times of all meetings

    • Detailed agendas and discussion notes of academic topics

    • Content and outcomes discussed during each session

  • At the end of the year, all documentation must be submitted and signed by your administrator for verification.

Why this matters:

When PLCs are done well, they:

  • Lead to consistent and aligned instruction across classrooms and grade levels

  • Help identify and address learning gaps using real-time data

  • Support the creation of targeted interventions for struggling students

  • Empower teachers to collaborate, reflect, and improve in a supportive environment

  • Create space for innovation and student-centered teaching strategies

To ensure your PLC work qualifies for points, sessions must focus on topics such as.

Curriculum Alignment and Development

  • Aligning instructional strategies with state standards and school curriculum.

  • Developing lesson plans that meet diverse student needs.

Data-Driven Instruction

  • Analyzing student data to inform instructional decisions.

  • Using formative and summative assessments effectively.

Classroom Management and Student Engagement

  • Strategies to foster a positive, productive learning environment.

  • Techniques for increasing student participation and motivation.

Differentiated Instruction

  • Tailoring teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.

  • Using tiered assignments or flexible grouping.

Assessment and Feedback

  • Effective use of formative and summative assessments.

  • Providing meaningful feedback to students to encourage growth.

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and Student Well-Being

  • Integrating SEL into daily instruction.

  • Addressing mental health and student well-being in the classroom.

  • Behavior Plans and FBA discussions.

Instructional Technology Integration

  • Incorporating technology to enhance learning.

  • Effective use of educational software and tools for remote and blended learning.

Collaborative Teaching Strategies

  • Co-teaching models and peer collaboration.

  • Sharing best practices and resources among colleagues.

Professional Growth and Reflective Practice

  • Self-assessment and reflection on teaching practices.

  • Developing action plans for professional growth.

Response to MTSS and Special Education

  • Implementing strategies to support struggling learners.

  • Understanding and applying IEPs and 504 plans.

PLCs represent our shared commitment to professional excellence and student success. They are a space to challenge our thinking, refine our practices, and ultimately deliver instruction that meets the needs of every learner in our classrooms. I am confident that with purposeful engagement, our PLCs will continue to be a catalyst for student achievement and school improvement. Below you will find a form to download and use for documentation reasons.

Thank you for approaching this work with the professionalism, care, and dedication our students deserve. If you have any questions about PLC expectations or documentation requirements, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
