Math: Mrs. Jordan

Math 8 students continued the Module on Solving Equations. Students have solved Two-Step Equations and Multi-Step Equations with distributive property, like terms. Students have completed many group/partner activities including Multi-Step Equations Scavenger Hunt, Multi-Step Equations Error Analysis and Vertical whiteboard activities. We have begun solving Variables on Both Sides Equations and we have returned to note taking in the workbook. At times the equations may look challenging however as I explained to the students, if you break it down to small pieces it becomes easier. Part of making a more challenging problem easier is to show all the work step by step as they work through the problem. Students need to show all their work to earn full credit on problems.

Important update- First in Math- By the end of Trimester 2 (March 13th) students should have completed 2,000 stickers in total. Students should continue to get 100 stickers per week to maintain their goal at the end of the trimester .

Civics: Ms. Costello

Students completed and presented their Rights Project prior to Thanksgiving. This was our first group project of the year. Next up, is Unit 3, the Powers of the Government. Students learn about the creation of the U.S. Constitution, and the separation and balance of powers across our three branches of government. We will consider what powers the presidency has as written in the Constitution, and if and how this power has changed over time. At the end of the unit your child will create a ‘legal brief’ - an essay in which they take a position on whether the presidency has too much or the right amount of power, based on what they’ve learned through studying documents. You might ask your child:

  • What kinds of powers does the president have? Do you think it’s too much, or just the right amount?

  • Can you think of a situation (at home, at school, etc) in which there are power structures that don’t work? [if possible, perhaps share an example of this from your own personal or work experiences]

English: Mrs. Dion

Our 8th graders have been exploring Edgar Allan Poe’s classic short story “The Tell-Tale Heart.” Students practiced close reading and annotation strategies to uncover key plot points, identify the central conflict, and gather strong textual evidence to support inferred information. Through this chilling tale, they sharpened their analytical skills—and maybe got a few goosebumps along the way!

Science: Miss Beaupre

is month, students have been working on OpenSciEd Unit 7.3: Metabolic Reactions (Lessons 1–5). We’ve been studying a case about a girl named McKenna who is experiencing concerning symptoms.

So far, students have focused on how the digestive system works to break down food into smaller molecules the body can use. Through labs, models, and discussions, they are discovering how the body processes food and prepares it for use by cells.

Next month, we’ll continue investigating what might be happening inside McKenna’s body and explore how other body systems work together to keep her healthy.

Inclusion: Mrs. Tellier

Inclusion: Inclusion means every student learns, grows, and contributes together, each bringing their unique strengths to the classroom community.

As we head into December, we’re celebrating how our students continue to learn and grow together! Every student brings unique strengths to the classroom, and one simple way to support learning at home is by encouraging your child to spend 20 minutes each night reading — whether it’s a novel, a comic, or an article about something they love. Consistent reading helps strengthen vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence, keeping students engaged and learning all year long.

Accommodations: Some students have supports such as extra time on assignments or tests throughout the year. This may mean that certain grades or assignments will not appear in PowerSchool immediately. Please reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions.

Progress reports were distributed on November 25th. If you have not yet received your child’s progress report, please contact their special education teacher to request another copy.

Student of the Month

Our student of the month for December is Austin Sadowski. He works hard every day in every class and sets a good example for others. He listens intently during lessons and is very responsible about his work!
