Great Oak - Newsletter Volume 9.4
Home of the Wolfpack
Present with the Pack, Prepared for the Future
This week marks the end of Week 7 of first semester! The time has flown by as teachers, staff and students are busy learning in all classes, everyday and we are excited by what we are seeing as we walk classrooms and talk to the Wolfpack. As we continue to move through the semester, student attendance becomes increasingly important. When students are absent they miss valuable instruction and interactions with peers. They also can become behind on assignments and assessments in their classes. We encourage you to talk with your student at home about positive school attendance and the benefits of being at school each day.
At home, you can support strong attendance by:
Making sure your child gets enough sleep and a nutritious breakfast each day.
Helping your child develop a positive attitude toward school and learning and encouraging him/her to participate in school activities.
Creating back-up systems (alternative plans for getting to and from school)
Creating morning and evening routines
Posting school calendars, school attendance policy, and schedules in a visible place
Gaining access to the Infinite Campus and monitoring your child(ren)’s up-to-the-minute progress online.
Making your school aware of any issues that may be affecting your child’s attendance
Making sure your child’s school has your accurate daytime contact information, including cell phone number and/or e-mail address
While we recognize the need for positive attendance, we also understand that students gets sick and need to stay home. If your student is ill please report the absence to our Attendance Office.
Reporting and clearing a student absence

Juniors who do not register for the PSAT were automatically registered to participate in the ASVAB Career Exploration Program. The ASVAB is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world. As an aptitude test, the ASVAB measures strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success. The ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP) provides students with career information for various civilian and military occupations and is an indicator for success in future endeavors whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career.
Freshman and Sophomores will be participating in directed lessons on a variety of topics related to college and/or career.
This is an important day for students as they plan for life post high school and we are excited about what the day has in store for your student!
