A Message from Your Principal Team
Dear Washington Families,
As we head into Student Conference Week, we are excited for the opportunity to connect with our Washington Eagle families! Conferences are a special time for students, families, and teachers to come together to celebrate learning, talk about progress, and set goals for the rest of the school year. Your involvement makes a tremendous difference in your child’s success, and we truly value the partnership we share with our families.
If you have not yet scheduled a conference, please reach out to your child’s teacher. We look forward to welcoming you into our classrooms and celebrating the growth our students have made this year.
Our PBIS team also met this past week to review our school data and continue strengthening our positive school culture. Over the last two months, minor referrals for disrespect accounted for about 33% of incidents, while defiance accounted for about 21%. In response, our team is launching a fun PBIS challenge to help reteach expectations, encourage positive problem-solving, and celebrate those who consistently follow our Eagle Code: Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible. Our students do an amazing job showing these values every day, and we are excited to continue recognizing their efforts.
As we finish conferences and head into Spring Break, we hope you and your family take time to relax, recharge, and enjoy time together. We look forward to welcoming our Eagles back ready for a strong finish to the school year!
Thank you for being such an important part of our Washington Elementary community. Go Eagles🦅
Kind regards,
Alfredo Belanger - Principal
Antonio Ramos - Assistant Principal
What is happening at Washington?
Spring Conferences
Spring conferences are here. During the week of March 16th, our school will host student-led conferences. Families are invited to join their student as they guide you through their learning journey in the classroom. Be on the lookout for a conference slip from your student's teacher.
The main conference dates are March 18th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and March 19th from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, though additional times may be available—please check with your student's teacher.
Students have been working hard to prepare for this opportunity to share their progress with you. We hope you can join us!
If you have any questions or need to reschedule, please contact your student's teacher or call the school office at 971-983-3050.
Read Across America Dress Up Week!
Thank you to all the families who helped make our Read Across America Dress-Up Week so much fun! From pajamas and hats to favorite stuffies and bright colors, it was wonderful to see our students showing their excitement for reading. Your support helps us build a joyful culture of literacy at school. Go Eagles! 🦅📚
Lock Down Drill
As part of our ongoing commitment to school safety, we conducted a lockdown drill with students and staff this week. These practice drills help ensure that everyone understands the procedures we use to keep students safe during an emergency. Staff guided students through the process in a calm and age-appropriate manner, emphasizing that the drill was simply practice to help us stay prepared. Our goal is to make sure students and staff feel confident and safe while following our school safety procedures.
You may hear your student share about the drill, and if you have any questions feel free to give us a call.
Community Survey for WSD District Plan
As partners in the success of our students, your input is invaluable. We are in the process of revising our Strategic Plan and would love to hear from you. Please stop by at one of our locations during conferences.
Your voice is an essential part of this process.
We invite everyone in the community to take a few minutes to share their thoughts by completing this brief survey:
Woodburn School District Input Survey
In addition, families will have an opportunity to participate in focus groups during upcoming parent-teacher conferences, where we will gather feedback and ideas to help shape the future direction of our schools.
The Woodburn School District is a part of this community. The Strategic Plan is strongest when it reflects the voices, experiences, and hopes of the people who care deeply about our students.
Thank you for your continued partnership, your trust, and your commitment to the success of every Woodburn student.
Cell Phone Policy
No Cell Phone Policy 📱
Our goal is to improve academic outcomes by ensuring students are fully engaged in learning within a distraction-free environment that supports their well-being, focus, and ability to thrive academically and personally.
While students are allowed to have personal electronic devices*, they are restricted to using them only before school and after school. They must be off and away at all other times. Devices must be stored in backpacks or lockers and are not to be stored on students. If you are fearful of theft or loss, please leave the device at home.
*Personal Electronic Devices include any item that can send and receive phone calls, text messages, and access internet/social media. I.E. phones, watches, tablets, etc.
Book fair is here!
It’s that exciting time of year again — the Book Fair is here! 📚 Our amazing librarian, Mrs. Veliz, has organized several opportunities for students and families to visit and find a great new book.
Students can shop at the Book Fair:
• Before school: 7:15 AM – 7:45 AM
• During their scheduled library specials class
• After school with parents: 2:20 PM – 3:30 PM
The Book Fair will also be open during lunches on Monday (March 16th) and Tuesday (March 17th) for students who would still like time to shop.
As always, families are welcome to stop by the Book Fair during conferences this week on Wednesday and Thursday and shop together.
We hope you’ll stop by and explore all the wonderful books available. There is truly something for everyone! Happy reading, Eagles! 🦅📖
