Spotlight on Walk & Talk
We know how important it is for our students to have time during the school day to move their bodies, connect with friends, and reset their minds. While our schedule this year required us to adjust the traditional 30-minute recess to prioritize instructional time, we’re excited to share how we’re making the most of every minute - with Walk & Talk!
After students finish their lunch (after atleast 20 minutes), they can choose to head outside for Walk & Talk. To ensure that students finish their lunch, we have implemented multiple opportunities for them to dismiss. Walk and Talk is a dedicated time for physical activity, movement, and social interaction. Here’s what makes it special:
✅ Plenty of movement: Students are encouraged to walk, run, and get their energy out!
⚽ Access to sports equipment: Basketballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, kickballs and more are available for safe, fun play.
👫 Social connection: Unlike in past years, students can now intermingle across the entire grade level, helping to build friendships and a stronger school community.
🧠 Brain boost: We know that physical activity supports learning. Walk & Talk gives students a chance to refresh and refocus before heading back to class.
We’re proud of this creative solution that balances the need for physical activity and social connection with our commitment to maximizing quality instructional time. Our goal is to make every moment of the day count, for both learning and joy!
Thank you for your continued support!

Welcome back, Cobras! We are excited to have a great active year here at Collins. We will begin the year with our Badminton unit and follow with Four Square and Volleyball. This week we discussed the importance of bringing a water bottle to PE everyday and that students will participate regardless of shoe choice. Stay active and healthy!
We are looking forward to an exciting year of teaching art to your Collins child. We believe art education should be fun, empowering, but also relevant to our students’ lives both in and outside of the classroom. Our program is designed to develop and improve creative and technical skills in the beginner or experienced art student.
There is a $15 Art/Music fee that you can pay through your school cash online account. This fee will purchase the supplies your student will need throughout the school year in both art and music. Students are welcome to bring their own art supplies to supplement what is provided by Collins but it is in no way required. Happy drawing!
Hello Orchestra Families! I am so excited to begin this next year with your students whether they are returning or starting their new adventure. The Orchestra Fee and Cello/Bass Maintenance fee will be available on SchoolCashOnline, and Morning Practice will be available every day beginning Monday, August 18 from 8:10-8:45.
Welcome to the Collins Intermediate Band!
We are so excited to have you join our band family this year. Whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time or continuing your musical journey, you're in for an incredible year of learning, performing, and having fun. One of the most exciting opportunities at Collins is the chance to take private lessons with professional musicians who specialize in your instrument. These lessons are a great way to grow your skills and confidence—and they happen right here on campus!
Please note that your Band Fee will be posted on School Cash Online soon. This fee helps cover materials and includes your official Collins Band shirt—and we’ll collect your shirt size through the payment process as well. We can’t wait to make music with you! 🎶
I am looking forward to directing the Collins Cobra Choir this year! More information about Choir meeting dates will come to those who fill out the choir information form below. The deadline for new members is September 8th. If you already filled out the form, then keep an eye out for an email regarding meeting dates, times, and other important dates. Our first concert is with Wilkerson, Knox, and College Park on Monday, October 6th @ 7 pm at College Park High School. We hope to see you there!

Morning Drop Off 🚌🚗🚲🚶
Dismissal Information 🚌🚗🚲🚶
Please be patient as we get our Cobras home safely! 🙂Our dismissal procedures are designed with both efficiency and student safety in mind. We’ve worked hard to create a system that gets everyone where they need to go smoothly and securely. It’s important that parents understand how the process works so we can keep things running safely and on time every day. Be sure to become familiar with all dismissal procedures in the event that your child's dismissal changes at any point in the year. Thanks for helping us make dismissal a success for everyone!
Dismissal Reminders:
- Be patient as buses adjust to their schedules. If you aren't sure of your student's bus, click here.
- Bus riders MUST use their SMART tag while getting on and off the bus every day!
- You should always have a car rider sign (with the student ID #) in your window for car rider dismissal. If you forgot your sign, write it on a piece of paper so the staff member on duty can quickly read it as they walk by and communicate with the person inside.
- Please pull all the way up to your assigned cone in car rider pick up, students will come to you!
- Bike riders should always park their bike at the bike rack at the same spot where they will dismiss in the afternoon.
RAINY DAY DISMISSAL
Dismissal in Bad Weather
In the event of inclement or severe weather, be sure to check your email for updates on whether or not we will have rainy day dismissal.
If there is extreme weather (wind, hail, lightning, extreme rain) predicted to occur at 4:05 PM we will not allow students to walk or bike ride home - parents will be required to only use the car line.
Every parent should have a car rider sign, and it should be visible in the car rider line. If you are picking up additional students due to rainy day dismissal, please write each student’s ID number as large as possible on a piece of paper. Families without the car rider signs and without the student ID slows the process down substantially.
We will do our best to make a "Rainy Day Dismissal" decision by 3:45PM to alert families of the change. Please have a "Plan B" established with your child so they will know how they are getting home when a "Rainy Day Dismissal" is called.
