🙌 Weekly Shout-Outs
WOW Time ( Wilson's Outstanding Way!)
Every other week, all year long, students attend a class with our principal, Mme Wade. This class is 45 minutes long and students are grouped by class enabling teachers release time to collaborate and plan together. The topic of the lessons in WOW Time vary, with many focused on learning The Wilson Ways (Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Collaboration, Curiosity and Healthy Habits). We also use this time to learn about using our WITS to address problem behaviours with others. Sometimes the topics are safety-based. Last week the lesson highlighted Bike/Scooter/Pedestrian safety and next week's lesson is on Hallowe'en Safety. Other times the lessons are based on a theme such as Kindness or Friendship. As well, we use this time to do our prize draws for Wilson Woods tickets which students earn from staff for showing the Wilson Ways. These lessons help ensure that all students in our school get the same message about schoolwide expectations and values.
New this year is a grade 5 student leadership group run by Mme Wade called the WOW Team. These students will help with creating the lessons for WOW Time by creating videos, skits, posters, etc. Our grade 5's are excited to be leaders and role models within our school.
Hoop Presenter- Sandra
We were incredibly honored to host Sandra Lamouche, a champion hoop dancer, award-winning author, and Nehiyaw Iskwew (Cree Woman) from the Bigstone Cree Nation. Through her breathtaking agility, storytelling, and use of interwoven hoops, Sandra brought to life traditional teachings of unity, balance, and the interconnectedness of all creation. It was an unforgettable celebration of culture, resilience, and community that left us all deeply inspired.
