Principal's Message
Important Reminder: Mid-Year Assessment Week, Attendance Matters!
Dear NISL Families,
We have reached the midyear point of the school year, and this is an important time for assessing student progress. Several benchmark and mid year assessments will take place next week, and we kindly ask for your partnership in ensuring that all students attend school every day, inshaAllah.
Next week is the final week before Winter Break, and it is packed with critical mid year screeners and assessments. These evaluations help us measure student growth, guide instructional planning, and determine appropriate placement for interventions and small group instruction.
In Grades K to 3, students will complete the BPST (Basic Phonics Skills Test), PAST (Phonemic Awareness Skills Test), and writing assessments. These tools measure foundational reading skills, early literacy development, and writing developmental stages, which are essential for long term academic success.
Please note: There will be no early testing or make up opportunities for screeners and assessments that are missed due to travel or absences.
To ensure your child does not miss these important assessments, please schedule appointments outside of school hours and review the monthly calendars shared in newsletters and posted online.
Upcoming Assessments and Screeners. Please mark your calendars.

Building Character Through Barakah, Teamwork, and Generosity
Dear NISL Families,
As part of our mission to nurture students academically, spiritually, and morally, and emotionally, we strive to create experiences that help our students live the Islamic values we teach. Last Wednesday, December 10, 2025, our school wide Barakah Store, a key component of our Ci3T framework, beautifully reflected those values in action.
The Barakah Store rewards students for meeting our school wide behavior expectations and encourages positive choices rooted in respect, responsibility, and being their best. MashaAllah, many students came prepared to use their hard earned Barakah Bucks to purchase items such as stickers, toys, and art supplies. However, what stood out most was not what students bought, but how they chose to give.
We witnessed countless examples of generosity and teamwork. Some students gave their tickets to younger siblings, while others surprised younger brothers or sisters by purchasing gifts for them. Even more inspiring was how students supported one another. Several students donated their tickets to friends so everyone could experience the joy of earning a reward together.
One especially beautiful example came from our second grade class, who collectively pooled their tickets to reach 500 tickets and earn a class field trip reward. They did not focus on how many tickets each student contributed. Instead, they focused on what was best for their entire class. This spirit of unity and selflessness reflects the Islamic value of putting the group before the self. We are excited to share that they will be going on a fun field trip soon. More details and permission forms will be sent home shortly, insha’Allah. Last month, our fourth grade demonstrated the same teamwork by pooling their tickets to earn a class field trip as well.
Additionally, one of our first grade students, Asiya Mahran, came to the store with 100 tickets and discovered she could purchase a reward for her entire class. She chose to gift her classmates a Pajama Party! What a beautiful example of generosity and selflessness, mashaAllah.
These moments highlight the deeper purpose of our Ci3T Framework. Students are learning the value of delayed gratification, saving for larger future rewards, and most importantly, giving for the sake of others. This aligns with our vision of developing students who embody strong character, compassion, and a sincere desire to benefit those around them, seeking barakah in their actions.
We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful for your partnership in reinforcing these values at home. May Allah place barakah in their efforts, grow their hearts in generosity, and allow these lessons to shape them into well-rounded Muslims, full of integrity and generosity, and mercy.
Sincerely,
Aisha Blagaia
