Unity PreschoolNews January 2026

Happy 2026! Happy 2026!

Welcome back from what we hope was a fun and restful Christmas Break that was filled with quality time with your family. We missed your children and we are excited to return to Unity Preschool with many "winter" activities. We pray that the weather will continue to cooperate. Please remember that we follow the Fort Mill School District (FMSD) regarding weather closures and if there is a delayed start or remote classes we will NOT have Preschool.

January is our registration month so please return your registration forms and fees by Thursday, January 22 so that you have a spot for next year. Registration information for current families and siblings was e-mailed January 7 and you can find the online registration form link in this Newsletter and on the preschool website.

Just a reminder that we will not have preschool on Monday, January 19 or Monday, February 2nd because the FMSD will be closed in recognition of the Martin Luther King holiday and a teacher work day.

Happy New Year,

Ms. Linda

Spirit Day - KINDNESS DAY - January 29 Spirit Day - KINDNESS DAY - January 29

Our January Spirit Day will be on Thursday, January 29. We are WILD ABOUT KINDNESS at Unity Preschool so wear animal or animal print attire and we will be doing some special projects to share kindness with our classmates, teachers, homebound congregation members, and the DSS Staff of York County with the help of Isaiah House 117.

We have partnered with Isaiah House 117 to provide a Valentine's Day treat to the hard-working DSS Staff of York County. Our former Older Twos Lead Teacher, Ms. Danielle, is the Support Coordinator for the York County Isaiah House that opened in August. We would love your help in providing snacks. Please click on this signup genius link to sign up for an item and send it by January 28: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D49AEAB28A02-61533725-kindness

Below is a link if you are interested in learning more about this loving ministry.

Playground Renovation Playground Renovation

During the Christmas break our construction elves worked very hard installing and upgrading our natural play space in the Park. Carolina Urban Lumber (Pineville, NC) designed and installed our new play equipment. We are excited that our children will be challenged through physical play elements such as stepping logs, log bridges, A-frame climbing structure, and triangle logs with ropes that increase strength and balance. Our wood playhouses and sand box encourage our children to collaborate improving social skills, problem-solving, empathy, and more as they work together. Our natural wood benches allow our students a moment of rest with their friends as they socialize about their next adventure. Our open space of grass and natural wood chip play surfacing encourages our children to run, jump, and play games such as tag with each other. Our planters with plants are for the children to water, touch, and smell. We look forward to the children using their imaginations on this fun and safe equipment.

If you are cleaning your kitchen cabinets and have some durable pots and pans or kitchen utensils looking for a new home, send them our way for the children to use in the Park.

Why We Love Playdoh Why We Love Playdoh

Did you know that playdoh builds real skills:

*Strenghtens little fingers for writing.

*Supports hand eye coordination.

*Builds fine motor control through rolling, pinching, squeezing, and pressing.

*Encourages problem solving as children figure out what to make or attach.

*Helps children explore size, shape, color, and texture.

*Promotes early math language like more, less, tall, short, big, and small.

*Gives children space to test ideas and change them.

*Encourages imaginative play and storytelling.

*Grows social skills as children talk through ideas with friends.

*Children learn to wait, take turns, and work side by side.

Unity Preschool's Playdoh Kitchen is one of our most popular centers. We change the theme monthly and each of our Three's and Four's classes enjoys it for a week. Please allow your child to enjoy the playdoh that we gifted at Christmas. It is one of the best ways to develop fine motor skills necessary for writing.

MLK Call to Service Day - Fort Mill Community MLK Call to Service Day - Fort Mill Community

The Fort Mill Community MLK Call to Service Day on Saturday, January 17 is a great way to involve your children when helping others. Perhaps choose an organization or item that is meaningful to you and your family and have the children help purchase and drop off the item at Fort Mill Town Hall.

From the Town of Fort Mill website: In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who reminded us that “Everybody can be great because everybody can serve,” the Town of Fort Mill invites the community to take part in the Annual MLK Call to Service Day on Saturday, January 17, 2026. This year, we are highlighting four local organizations that serve vital needs in our community. Click below for more information, including a full list of requested donations and details about the four organizations they are helping this year.
