The Bruin Bulletin - 09/11/26
September 11, 2026
WE PLACE IN YOUR LOVING ARMS๐
God of love,
we place in your loving arms the thousands of innocent lives
that were lost on that unforgettable morning of September 11, 2001.
We also remember the courage of the countless men and women
who put their lives at risk in order to rescue,
alleviate and bring solace to the afflicted.
Help us to continue to work for a world free
from every form of hatred, violence and ignorance.
May terrorism -- in all its forms -- disappear from the face of the earth.
Amen.
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL ๐
Dear Bruin Family,
Today, we take a moment to remember the lives lost and forever changed by the events of September 11, 2001. Twenty-five years ago, our nation watched in shock and heartbreak as acts of terror claimed the lives of 2,977 innocent people. While many of our students were not yet born when this tragedy occurred, the impact of that day is still felt by families across our country.
As we reflect on this anniversary, we remember not only the loss and grief, but also the incredible courage that was on display. Firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and ordinary citizens stepped forward without hesitation to help others. Many put their own lives at risk in service of complete strangers. Their bravery and selflessness continue to inspire us today.
We are grateful for all first responders and public safety personnel who serve our communities every day. Their commitment to helping others reminds us of the importance of putting faith, compassion, and service into action.
This year, our school theme calls us to do small acts with great love. The anniversary of 9/11 gives us an opportunity to reflect on what that can look like in our own lives. While most of us won't be called to heroic acts, we are all called to care for the people around us. A kind word, a helping hand, an encouraging note, or a prayer for someone in need can have a powerful impact.
As we continue through the school year, I encourage each of us to look for opportunities to serve others a little more intentionally. Let us honor the example of those who answered the call on September 11 by being people who show kindness, choose compassion, and put others before ourselves. Together, let's make our Bruin community a place where small acts of love make a big difference.
Thank you for being partners in this mission and for helping our students grow into caring, faith-filled leaders.
Sincerely,
Mr. Ryan Nearhoff

CHILD SAFETY ๐จ
Did You Know?
August 15-16 || Concerning behaviors in children
In contrast to last weekโs article about age-appropriate curiosity, signs that a child is being sexually abused will typically be displayed in more concerning ways. Problematic sexual behaviors include an explicit imitation of intercourse or sexual acts, touching animals inappropriately, and/or persistent, repeated behaviors or knowledge of sexual acts. One aspect that can make children more vulnerable is the significant amount of sexual content in our popular media, which may be viewed by children on shows and commercials, in gaming apps, websites, through technology such as smart phones, texting apps and social media. For more information, read the VIRTUSยฎ article โDifferentiating age-appropriate curiosity from harmful sexual behavior and abuse in elementary aged childrenโ at lacatholics.org/did-you-know.
Mission Statement
To educate TK-Eighth grade students in a Catholic environment in which the curriculum emphasizes spiritual, ethical, and social values of the Catholic faith to become responsible and moral citizens within the global community.
Philosophy
Supporting the belief that parents are the primary educators of their children, we as educators at St. Dorothy Catholic School, dedicate ourselves to partner with the parents in preparing children to become contributing members of the community. To achieve this, we provide holistic development in psychological, emotional, social and physical health, with an emphasis on academics, faith, and Christian service.
In collaboration with parents, we champion student achievement through the presentation, practice, and study of Catholic doctrine, a strong academic curriculum, multimedia and multi-cultural experiences, physical education, extracurricular programs, and the dedicated commitment of the teachers and staff.
