Northrop Newsletter
November 2025
Hello, Northrop families!
It's hard to believe that we're at the end of October and Trimester 1, it feels like October flew by in a
blink! We've had the privilege of working with your students for the past 12 weeks and it's
incredible to see the growth that's already happening! Students have gained new skills in all areas
since the start of the year and this is what makes being an educator truly rewarding!
As the temperatures begin to drop, please remember to send your students to school dressed appropriately for the weather. Students will enjoy outside time as long as the temperatures are 20 degrees or above. If you are in need of coats, hats, or gloves, please email me as we often receive donations of these items and are happy to help!
I am also asking for your cooperation with water bottles. Please keep WATER ONLY in student water bottles. When students bring other drinks, it makes for sticky floors and bigger messes when they spill. Thank you for your attention to this!
The next Counselor Chat is Nov. 19th 6-7 at Fenn Elementary. ALL parents and guardians are welcome to attend regardless of if you have attended before or had a chance to listen to the podcast beforehand.

Holiday Help
As the holidays approach, we recognize that this can be a special time of year but also a difficult one for families. We are fortunate to have support from community programs and generous donations, so if you could use a little extra help for Thanksgiving meals and/or Christmas gifts, please reach out to me via phone (330) 636-4600 or email dodeza@medinabees.org. We are here to help!
Northrop's Little Free Food Pantry
As some families may be experiencing a loss of SNAP benefits come November, if the government is shut down, we wanted to provide a resource to families:
We are fortunate enough to have our own Little Free Food Pantry here at Northrop. Thank you to PTO for their funding and support to make this happen! Thank you to Mrs. McClintock and her dad, Mr. Humphal, for their hard work to build this and their attention to detail! More to come on the food pantry and how our Northrop students can help, but in the meantime, it's stocked and ready for use!

4th grade Deeper Learning
4th graders had a chance to exercise voice and choice and showcase their learning from the Middle Ages CKLA unit. The knowledge they shared and the creativity they used were both outstanding!
4th graders also made pamphlets to teach others about Tsunamis, from their recent learning in CKLA. These are available in the kiosk in the Northrop main entrance. Check out a few examples:
3rd grade Board of Education meeting presentation
At the October Board of Education meeting, our 3rd grade teachers and a few students presented their deeper learning work. The work they did in their classes was truly exemplary and their presentation was outstanding! If you'd like to see the clip, click the button below:
Author Visit - Jonathan Miller - November 5th
We are excited to welcome author Jonathan Miller to Northrop! His series, The Adventures of Sammy the Wonder Dachshund, includes several very entertaining stories for our students! Please have your student wear BLUE to school on that day as it's Mr. Miller's favorite color. If you'd like to order an autographed book, the order form is below (hard copies were sent home earlier this week).
Social Emotional Learning
As part of our work to support students with their social and emotional development, we teach lessons daily that cover a variety of skills. These lessons give students words to describe their feelings and strategies to use when they're feeling upset. Not only does it help the individual students when needed, but it also builds the classroom community and helps everyone understand how to handle things when they don't go as expected.
During the month of October students learned about having Body In the Group, Size of the Problem, and Thinking with Your Eyes to make a Smart Guess. Click on the pictures below to see more!
Counselor Corner
Stacey Wielgus, M.A., LPSC
Eliza Northrop Elementary & Ralph E. Waite Elementary
wielguss@medinabees.org (330) 636-4607
I am at Northrop on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays each week.
As an elementary school counselor, I am committed to supporting the social and emotional needs of our students and the families of the students we serve. In addition, I am also committed to supporting our staff here at school to ensure that we are meeting the individual needs of each student during the school day. By addressing social and emotional needs as well as academics, we work together to increase learning and academic growth for each student here at Eliza Northrop and Waite Elementary Schools. As a school counselor, my typical services include small groups and/or individual meetings with students, as well as in the whole group, which is often in a classroom setting. I teach students new skills that can assist them with positive and appropriate emotional expression as well as in learning coping skills and the use of coping tools.
