Dear RedHawk Families,

We can officially say the 2025–2026 school year is off to a wonderful start! Over these first three days, our RedHawks have stepped into new classes, mastered (or at least begun mastering!) their lockers, and adjusted to our early release schedule with determination and grace. I am so proud of the way they have problem-solved alongside peers, sought help from staff, and persevered through those first-week challenges. This is exactly the kind of resilience and teamwork we hope to see in our school community.

As I reflect on this first week, I know it’s tempting to simply ask your child, “How’s it going?”—but often, that question gets you a one-word answer. This weekend, I encourage you to try a few conversation starters that might spark richer stories and deeper insight:

  • What class or class period are you especially looking forward to this year?

  • If you could be proud of one thing by the end of the year, what would it be?

  • What surprised you in a good way?

  • What’s one thing you hope gets easier soon?

  • What is something you’re nervous about, but also kind of excited for?

We are so lucky to do this work—shaping futures, building confidence, and cheering on each step of growth. Every day is a chance to make a difference in a young person’s life, and I’m grateful we get to do it together.

Proud to be a RedHawk,
Francesca Favero, Principal

Notes from the Office Notes from the Office

QC label in Schoology

This year, you may notice some of your student's assignments labeled "QC" in the Schoology gradebook. The "QC" stands for "Quick Check," and is meant to be a formative assessment of your child's performance on identified standards. This means the assignment is a helpful indicator of your child's understanding of the particular standards at the time of the assignment and could have some predictive value of their performance on similar questions on the summative assessment for that unit.

Reminder - Water Bottle Art Contest

We’re excited to share a fun and creative opportunity for our elementary and middle school students this summer!

In partnership with District 303, the St. Charles Business Alliance is hosting a Water Bottle Design Contest inviting students to design a label for a 100% recyclable aluminum water bottle. The winning design will be printed on over 1,600 bottles and handed out during the 40th Anniversary of Scarecrow Weekend in fall 2025!

Who can participate?

All D303 elementary and middle school students are welcome to submit a design.

What are the judges looking for?

Designs will be evaluated based on:

• Creativity – Is the design unique and visually appealing?

• Relevance – Does it reflect the 40th Anniversary of Scarecrow Weekend?

• Execution – Is the artwork clean, clear, and high quality?

How do students submit their design?

All details, including the downloadable template and the submission form, can be found here:

Water Bottle Design Contest Info & Submission Link

Deadline to submit: August 20th

Students are welcome to start their designs over the summer, and art teachers may also be sharing this opportunity during the first week of school for those who’d like to participate then.

We can’t wait to see what our creative students come up with!

New Attendance Policy 2025-2026

At Wredling, we are dedicated to supporting each student’s academic and personal growth. Consistent attendance is one of the most important factors in helping students stay engaged, connected, and successful. We truly appreciate your partnership in ensuring your student is present and ready to learn each day.

There are new attendance policies and procedures for the 2025-2026 school year that can be found in your student’s handbook beginning on page 11. We have updated our infographics (see below) to reflect these changes, but we would like to direct your attention to the biggest changes:

  1. Defined tardies: Minutes 1–6 late will result in a tardy. An extended tardy will be applied if the student is 7 or more minutes late to school or class.
  2. 8 excused absences: Once a student has reached 8 excused absences, a staff member may reach out to help problem-solve and offer support.
  3. 10 full-day absences: Once a student has accumulated 10 full-day absences, a medical note will be required for all absences to be excused. *See handbook for specific requirements of the medical note on pg. 14.
  4. Problem-solving meetings: All students will be required to have a problem-solving meeting with building staff to address attendance concerns. At this time, a parent/guardian may be asked to participate in the conference.
  5. No more pre-arranged absences: Vacations during school days are discouraged and will be considered unexcused.

If you have specific concerns regarding your student as it relates to attendance, please reach out directly your student’s Student Support Counselor/Dean:
