This Week @ PS 88Q
May 18, 2026
A Message From Mrs. O'Shaughnessy
It was so wonderful spending time with many of you this past Saturday at our PTA Spring Fling! It was a beautiful morning filled with laughter, connection, and community, and we are so grateful to everyone who joined us.
This past week also marked the official completion of all New York State testing. Our Grade 3, 4, and 5 students completed the NYS ELA and Math exams, our Grade 5 students took the Science assessment, and our ENL students from Kindergarten through Grade 5 finished the NYSESLAT. It is certainly a busy time of year, but PS 88Q does it with ease! We do not shut down during testing, instead, we keep the momentum going and continue to provide rich and engaging experiences for our students.
Throughout the week, our Studio in a School residencies proudly showcased student work, Class 3-203 under the direction of Mr. Mason Early performed a wonderful play for their peers, our basketball team hosted PS 13 for a scrimmage, and our students participated in performances and activities that allowed them to thrive both inside and outside of the classroom.
And we’re not slowing down! This week, we continue the excitement with our Student Council’s Participatory Budget initiative; the Carnival! This time of year is busy, but it is also filled with so much joy, celebration, and opportunity for our students.

Dear PS 88Q Families,
As the weather begins to warm up, we are excited to see our students enjoying time outdoors and taking part in all of the wonderful activities happening at school. With the change in seasons, we kindly ask for your support in ensuring that students come to school dressed appropriately for a safe and comfortable learning environment.
All clothing should provide appropriate coverage for the school setting. We ask that students do not wear items such as flip-flops, cut-off shirts, or very short shorts. Closed-toe shoes are important for safety, especially during recess, physical education, and outdoor play.
Our goal is to maintain a school environment that is respectful, safe, and focused on learning, while also allowing students to be comfortable during warmer days.
We appreciate your partnership and support in helping our students come to school ready for a successful day.
Spring Fling
Our Spring Fling, sponsored by our incredible PTA, was a huge success!
A special thank you to our PTA Board for all of the planning and effort that went into making this event so memorable for our community. It was a wonderful opportunity for families to come together, connect, and enjoy time with their children. With so many fun games and activities, the playground was filled with laughter and excitement all morning long. A special shoutout to the Hot Hands Jazz Band for their amazing performance, which brought such great energy to the event. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a joyful celebration!
