GIFTED & TALENTED
Region 10's gifted and talented program is a separate cooperative focused on the individual academic and emotional needs of identified GT students
The State Plan for the Education of Gifted Students "Bites"
According to our state plan, gifted students must be given opportunities to pursue areas of interest in selected disciplines through guided and independent research (4.2). What does that look like in class? Genius hour, passion projects, choice boards, and PBLs can all allow for students to focus on and research topics that engage them and motivate them to learn. The expectation is that gifted students are capable of producing products and performances that are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment (The State Goal for Gifted Ed). These independent studies allow for gifted students to take their passions and run with them and reach for the stars! Have you heard about the Texas Performance Standard Project (TPSP)? It's a great resource from TEA that provides students with choices for independent research and exploration...all turn-key ready, TEKS aligned, with Spanish versions and rubrics already created, and ready to use, grades K-12! TEA believes in it so much they mention it in the state plan three times.
