Message from the Principal

Greetings Findley Community~

With just one week to go until Spring Break (March 23–27), we can feel the excitement building throughout the hallways at Findley! To ensure our students have a productive and positive final week of learning, we need your partnership.

As the "vacation jitters" kick in, staying grounded in our school habits makes a world of difference for our Dragons. Here is how you can help us finish the week strong:

  • Stick to the Routine: Consistency is key during high-energy weeks. Keeping regular bedtimes and morning routines helps students arrive at school feeling calm, prepared, and ready to focus.

  • Toys and Personal Items: We kindly ask that all toys, trading cards, and personal items remain at home. These items can easily become a distraction or lead to hurt feelings if they are lost or broken. Keeping our focus on classroom materials helps everyone stay on track.

  • Reinforce Procedures: We are leaning heavily into our school-wide procedures this week to maintain a peaceful learning environment. Simple reminders at home about following teacher directions and school-wide expectations in the common areas go a long way!

We are so proud of the hard work our students have put in this term. Let’s work together to make this last week smooth and successful so everyone can head into break feeling great!

With Gratitude,

Sherry Marsh, Ed.D

Mark your lunch calendar!

Thursday, March 19th will be our Featured Entree in the cafeteria. We will be serving Ota Tofu with Lemongrass Sauce and noodles. This delicious dish will feature 3 local companies.

  • Ota Tofu Crumbles ~ which is the oldest tofu producer in the USA and the owners live in Beaverton School District.
  • MOB sauce is creating a lemongrass sauce just for our students.
  • And, to round out the meal, we have a student favorite...Umi Organic Yakisoba Noodles.

This meal is vegetarian, vegan and inherently Halal. We hope you'll encourage your child to give it a try! 😋

AVID for 6th Graders

AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) is a college and career readiness system in all Beaverton options schools and comprehensive middle and high schools. AVID includes an elective class during the school day. Your feeder middle or options school is looking for students to be enrolled in the AVID elective class for next year.

The AVID elective is a year-long elective class, taken in addition to the academic core classes (language arts, social studies, math, science, and other required courses) at your middle school. Students learn organizational and study skills, work on critical thinking and ask thoughtful questions, engage in student-led tutorials with each other, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities that make them career-and-college ready.

AVID students selected for the AVID elective are usually...

  • In the “academic middle” – meeting learning standards in all subject areas and passing standardized tests, but need a little extra support to excel

  • Needing help with study skills and organizational skills

  • Motivated to go to college and/or work in a professional career but don’t quite know how or have resources at home

  • Willing to work hard and study every night

  • Historically underrepresented in 4-year universities (first one in the family to attend college, students coming from economically challenging situations, students of color, etc.)

  • Facing special circumstances that make it difficult for them to actualize their college and career dreams

Students must apply to be in the AVID elective class. To apply, please use this link to access the application form in your preferred language:

The AVID application is due March 20, 2026.

BSD Math Advancement Testing for 5th Grade Families

The vast majority of BSD students enroll in middle school math without skipping a course. But a small number of students every year believe that they already know the math that will be taught next year. If this is true for your student you may request an advancement test to see if they are eligible to skip a full year or more of math and enroll in a more advanced course.

Advancement Testing covers next year's math content and is most appropriate for students who believe they are ready to skip a full year or more of math instruction. If you would like your student to take an advancement test to determine if skipping one or two years of math instruction would be appropriate instead, please see the BSD Math Advancement Testing site to request testing by April 15th.

All testing will take place in early May at your student’s school during their school day. There will be no testing for current students after May. If you have any questions, please refer to the FAQ on the BSD Math Advancement Testing site.

🛑Parking Lot Reminders - We need your help! 🚘

Please remember:

  • Max speed anywhere in the parking lot is 10-15 mph - please be sure you are following this expectation at all times.
  • Please pull as far forward as you can before allowing your child to get out of the car. This helps us keep the line moving smoothly.
  • During arrival ~ Students should not exit on the driver's side of the car. If your child cannot exit on the passenger side please park and walk them to the crosswalk.
  • During arrival ~ Please walk your child to the crosswalk - students should not be walking through the parking lot without an adult.
  • At dismissal ~ Students are not allowed to enter the parking lot without an adult.

Thank you for helping us keep all our Findley Dragons safe!💜
