Superintendent's Weekly Update

January 19, 2024
Dear Weymouth Public Schools Community,
We are excited to announce Kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year is open! For information on how to register, and to view upcoming important dates and deadlines, please click here.
It was a busy week in the district as planning and preparation for the FY25 budget was a focal point for district and school administrators, and mid-year exams took center stage for many of our students and educators.
This week we continued with our community forums to engage with you regarding school safety and well being. We are in the process of gathering all of the information we garnered from the sessions and will be sending out an FAQ soon.
Throughout the forums and at the Meeting of the Whole, it was suggested that we provide families a visual for code of conduct violations and potential consequences. We have drafted a template to bring clarity to students, families and staff on how discipline is handled in the schools. Administrators continue to work on this draft and we will present to School Committee during handbook presentations in April for final approval and addition to the handbooks.
Below you'll find an additional update from the School Committee on the vacant seat and application process, and a few highlights from throughout the week.
See you back in school on Monday, Wildcats!
Sincerely,
Robert Wargo
Superintendent
Congratulations to Rebecca & Chapman Middle School
Rebecca an 8th Grade student at Chapman Middle School, has won 3rd place in Horace Mann’s “Create a Calendar Cover” contest. The planning calendars are highly requested by educators across the country. There were nearly 2000 entries, and so many wonderful submissions which made it difficult to choose a winner.
Rebecca will receive a $100 Visa Gift Card and Chapman Middle School will receive $500 in Donor’s Choose money. Great job Rebecca!!! Thank you Mike Letorney and Barbara Jacobs from Horace Mann.

The following video was created by Rebecca in Chapman Middle School's Community Photo Journalism class. This elective digital art class is designed to challenge students' creativity and imagination through the medium of making short videos. Students use critical thinking skills to research their projects, write the scripts, download or film their images, and edit the final product.
This animated short film (45 seconds) took Rebecca over six weeks of class time to film. She individually drew close to 2500 images and set it to a fun song. We hope you enjoy her story as much as she enjoyed making it.
