2026-2027 Scheduling Information

Welcome back to the 2026-2027 School year. This newsletter will contain the following information:

• RPMS courses
• Parent flyer containing information for this year's Social Emotional Learning Snapshot.
• Meet the Counseling Team Grade level assignments

Towards the bottom of the document, you will find the form you can use if you are requesting schedule changes. There are restrictions to some requests, but we will do our best to honor them.

Friendly reminders:

• Make sure you have updated your Back to School packet online through Parent Vue. You will see a box pop up for you to "Begin Packet". You will not be able to see your student's schedule until the Back To School packet is completed online.
• Check the status of your child's immunizations (for 7th graders)
• Use the included form to request schedule changes. (See below)

Rippon Families, I have added a link to the Social Emotional Learning Snapshot. There is a QR code available that leads to further information.

Every student will have 7 periods on their schedule. There is a variety of class which are catered to the academic flow for each student.

You will notice that 6th and 7th grade students will have a combination of year-long and quarter classes. The quarter classes will run for approximately 9 weeks and then will switch to the next quarter.

6th and 7th Grade:

Most students will have 11 courses listed: 7 year long classes and 4 quarter classes.

• Math
• Language Arts
• Social Studies
• Science
• An additional Enrichment/Remediation class: Creative Writing or Integrated Skills Content Lit, or Reading Support & Development, Reading Strategies, and ELD-specific to English Language Learners
• Music --will alternate with PE. Example on "A" day student will have PE, On "B" day Music class
• PE-will alternate with Music
• 4 Quarter classes*: Art, Family and Consumer Science, Business, Intro to Foreign Language
• 7th grade only: 1 mandated Career Investigations course for 1 quarter

8th grade

• Pre Algebra, Algebra 1 or Geometry--Restrictions apply.
• Lang Arts
• Civics
• Science
• An additional class: Creative Writing or Integrated Skills Content Lit, Reading Support & Development and Reading Strategies
• PE Year
• Music class-Not mandated in 8th grade
• Semester classes*--FACS, ART, Business, Theater
• Spanish 1--Restrictions apply and limited spacing

Gifted:

* Please note that if your student is in the Gifted Program, two of their quarter elective classes will be for Gifted classes (in 6th and 7th Grade). 8th grade Gifted students will take 1 semester Gifted class.

Parent's can view their student's course requests and schedules in ParentVue. Simply click on the tab labeled "Course Requests" on the toolbar on the left side of the home screen. There is a tab for "Class Schedule" that will open up on 8/18/26.

If you have more than one student in PWCS, you may need to navigate to the correct student.

Generally, we allow changes within the music department.

• If you see a course request for the wrong music selection, you may select a different course.
• Requests for extended classes are finalized and approved once SOLs are completed and on some occasions through teacher recommendations.
• 8th grade: We have limited seats for Spanish 1. Students who are in need of other academic supports will not have space to take Spanish 1.

Parents, you will be able to download a Request for Course Requests below. We will also make copies of the form and leave them in the front office in case you need a copy.

Finally, please be aware that some of these course requests may shift once SOL scores are finalized.

You may see changes as we continue to work on the Master Schedule and update course requests. The counseling team is available to help with any lingering questions.
