Twenty-Second Sunday After Pentecost

Prelude: I Don't Feel Noways Tired - C. Burrell

Welcome and Announcements

Call to Worship Adapted from the Iona Abbey Worship Book | © The Iona Community 2016

One: O God, who called all life into being,

All: The earth, sea and sky are yours.

Your presence is all around us;

Every atom is full of your energy.

Your Spirit enlivens all who walk the earth.

With you we yearn for justice to be done,

for creation to be free from threat,

for the hungry to be fed,

for captives to be released,

for your kingdom of peace to come on earth.

Singing & Praying Together

Opening Hymn: Today We All Are Called To Be Disciples - 696

Liturgy For Peace & Justice (pg. 148-153)

Prayers of the People

Pastoral Prayer/Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Statement on Star Mountain Statement on Star Mountain

Last week, we received word from one Sr. Roberta Hoey, the president of the Unity Board, on behalf of The Star Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Ramallah, Palestine, one of the many Moravian ministries we have supported through our Joyful Noise Offering. In her letter, she shared that on October 9th and October 11th there were two incursions on Star Mountain's property by approx. 100 Israeli settlers that left not only significant damage to the property, but also fear of what might come next for the young children and the families there seeking care.

In the conclusion of her letter, Sr. Roberta shared the following:

"The Moravian Church stands in solidarity with the Star Mountain community and Palestine at this difficult time. We continue to hold the children and young people, their families, staff and all those connected with Star Mountain in our prayers. We pray and work for justice, peace, dignity and security for all. We call the relevant authorities of Israel and Palestine to secure the safety and wellbeing of the children, young people and the dedicated staff of the Star Mountain Rehabilitation Centre."

If you would like to read Sr. Roberta's full letter, it is attached as a PDF below. Please continue to hold the staff, patients, and families at Star Mountain Rehabilitation Center in prayer at this time. For anyone wanting to extend a helping hand financially, you can contribute to Star Mountain’s ministry by giving online or mailing a check – info at MoravianMission.org/Give/.

Midweek Bible Study

All are invited to join us for our Thursday Morning Bible Study! We meet in person and online at 10:00 AM, so even if you are not able to participate in person, we would love for you to join our discussion! Our current focus is based on the Revised Common Lectionary scriptures for the upcoming Sunday.

Through September and October, we will be focused on the lectionary texts from the book of Exodus, and wrestling with the question: what does it mean for us to follow God into the wilderness, beyond what we know?"

As reminder, there are several different ways to give your offerings here at Calvary.

  1. Bring your offering to Sunday worship.
  2. Mail your offering to the church office at 948 N. 21st Street, Allentown, PA 18104.
  3. Use your bank’s “BILL PAY” service. A one-time or recurring payment can be made by a bank on your behalf. Banks that offer this service typically cut a check and mail it to the church at no cost to you. Contact your bank for details. The bank usually asks for an account number. Just call Calvary office beforehand and Jess will supply an account number to you or just use your envelope number.
  4. Make an online payment through the Moravian Giving Portal – https://mmfa.info/giving-portal/. Go to this link, click on our church’s name and follow the instructions to make a one-time gift or a recurring monthly gift. Donations can be made by members and non-members via direct debit of a bank account or by credit card. All donation processing fees for portal gifts are now paid by the Moravian Ministries Foundation – your full donation will be received by your church.
