Superintendent's Weekly Update
9/23/2022
March 24, 2023
Dear Weymouth Public Schools' Community,
This week marks the first day of spring, the season of new beginnings. As we begin to look towards new plans and projects we have a few important updates and reminders:
- School and district events are ramping up as we navigate the final months of the school calendar. In addition to the weekly district newsletter, you can check your student's school newsletter, WPS social media, and your email for information related to upcoming events and programming.
- As a reminder, MCAS testing takes place next week. Please check your school's Sunday Message for a list of dates.
- Spring sports are underway! The Weymouth High School spring sports schedule can be found here.
- Read Across America Week, contests, and special guest readers were once again an enormous highlight in many of our schools across the district. You can find a few photos of some of the fun below.
Academy Elementary celebrated Panda Day on March 22. Students and staff put on their best black and white attire, and the kindergarten students kicked off the event with a school-wide parade bringing this conservation project to life. Interactive bulletin boards, games, ELA & math activities were all created by our kindergarten teams for the whole school to enjoy. Read more about this amazing annual day below!
Have a great weekend, Wildcats!
Thank you,
Robert Wargo
Superintendent
From Senator O'Connor:
I stopped by Ralph Talbot Elementary in Weymouth to read a few books to students in the library. One of the books we read together was “Be You!” by Peter H. Reynolds. The story encourages kids to take a chance to be themselves, to be kind and brave, and to think for themselves. Thank you again to the team at Ralph Talbot for allowing me to stop in - looking forward to coming back soon.
Last week, I had the opportunity to join a few civics classes at Chapman Middle School in Weymouth to talk about my role as a State Senator.
As always, the students asked some great questions and it was good to hear from the next generation about their thoughts on government.
Thank you again to Mr. Poirier, Mr. Connolly, and Mr. Heylin for the invitation to speak with your classes!
Fun at Nash!
Panda Day at Academy
In addition to the Kindergarten kick-off parade, interactive bulletin boards, ELA & math activities-- 5th graders paired up with their little panda cubs in Kindergarten and to an end of the day project. Two years ago, Mrs. West, our resident Panda expert, was invited to the National Zoo in Washington DC and got to meet with the panda trainers where she presented them with an Academy T-shirt. This is our 10th year with this Community Service Learning Project and truly has become a staple in the Academy experience.
March 22 - National School Crossing Guard Day - THANK YOU Traffic Supervisors!
