Dear Families and Community Members,

As we move into February, there is so much to celebrate in Coupeville School District! Our middle and high school students have just begun the second semester, bringing fresh energy and new opportunities for learning and growth. Across our district, students are engaging in exciting projects, building connections, and demonstrating the excellence that makes our community so special.

February is a time of renewal and progress in our schools. Whether it's new courses, upcoming events, or continued academic achievement, there are wonderful things happening in every classroom and on every campus.

I also want to remind everyone that Election Day is Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Please remember to turn in your ballots.

Thank you for your continued support of our schools and community. Together, we're making great things happen for our students!

Sincerely,
Shannon Leatherwood
Superintendent

Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we had no school on Monday, January 19. This day served as a meaningful opportunity for our students, staff, and families to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy of service, equality, and community.

As we paused to remember his monumental impact on our nation, we are reminded of his words: "The time is always right to do what is right." We encourage our Coupeville community to continue to use these times to engage in acts of kindness or local service as we honor his vision.

Wolf Pack Staff Shoutout: Deb Sherman

CES 5th Grade Teacher

This week, we proudly recognize Deb Sherman, a cornerstone of Coupeville Elementary and a true champion for students, families, and colleagues.

Known for her tireless work ethic, nurturing spirit, and authentic care for others, Deb has spent her career creating classrooms where students feel confident, supported, and inspired to grow.

One colleague shared:

“Deb can connect with every student who passes through her classroom door. Every student knows they matter.”

Deb’s passion for literacy and learning is contagious. A voracious reader and longtime Young Authors mentor, she keeps the excitement for writing alive year after year.

“Seeing the final product of Young Authors is remarkable. Deb makes the process meaningful and magical.”

Beyond academics, Deb is known for her unwavering dedication. She attends student events on weekends, checks in on former students, and builds lasting relationships with families.

“She shows up for her students, even on weekends. She truly cares.”

Her classroom is both highly organized and creatively vibrant, blending structure with warmth and imagination.

“Her classroom is a magical place to learn.”

Deb is also a trusted mentor and leader. She supports new teachers, serves on district committees, and advocates tirelessly for education.

“Other teachers turn to Deb for advice. She never seems to tire in her efforts.”

Colleagues often describe her as a “master teacher” who lifts struggling learners while empowering independent thinkers. Whether through a warm smile, a handshake, or encouraging words, Deb ensures every student feels valued.

Perhaps most importantly, Deb remains a lifelong learner herself. She worked hard to earn her Master’s degree, always striving to improve her craft for the benefit of her students.

As one peer beautifully summarized:

“If Deb were a superhero, she’d be Wonder Woman.”

From organizing field trips and ceremonies to mentoring colleagues and inspiring young writers, Deb Sherman embodies what it means to be a Wolf Pack educator.

Thank you, Deb, for your heart, your leadership, and your lifelong dedication to Coupeville kids!

I encourage all community members to take time to read and carefully review the facts about two levy renewals that will appear on the February 10, 2026 ballot. These are replacement levies for funding that our community last approved in 2022. It's important to understand that there are TWO separate propositions on the ballot:
