Welcome Back to School 2025-2026!
January 9, 2026
We did it! The first week of January was filled with excitement as we welcomed students and staff back to school. The warmer than expected weather made getting outside for recess especially enjoyable and a fun way to ease back in after winter break.
Thank you so much to our families for your continued generosity and support for our school wide day of service. We are so grateful. We are still in need of just a few remaining items, and we may also be looking for additional volunteers across different grade levels to help with deliveries. Please be sure to keep an eye out for grade level emails with more details specific volunteer needs for deliveries.
As a quick scheduling reminder, Friday will be a full day of school this year, which is different from last year. This coming week is also a full week of school. Students will be off next Monday in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
As we settle back into our school routines, we kindly invite families to take a moment to review the reminder below about toys from home. We truly appreciate your partnership and support as we help students return to routines that keep everyone safe, focused, and happy at school.
-Michelle Britton
New Year Reminder: Toys from Home
“Electronic games and trading cards, etc. may be accessed on the school bus, but must remain in the student’s backpack during the school day. These are distracting to the education process and are easily damaged or lost. The school shall not be responsible for the loss, damage, or misuse of any personal items brought to school.
Please note: This includes recess. Students may not take toys, trading cards (such as Pokémon cards), or similar items out during recess to play or trade. These items must stay in backpacks for the entire school day.”

MLK School Wide Day of Service
We are excited to share an update about our upcoming Day of Service on Friday, January 16, 2026.
Thanks to your incredible support, almost all donation items have already been purchased! We truly appreciate your kindness.
At this time, we are still in need of just a few specific items, with our greatest needs being oatmeal and bologna:
Grade 3 – Breakfast Bags: breakfast foods, especially oatmeal packets
Grade 4 – Sandwiches for the Homeless Shelter: bologna (and cheese)
Important note for Grade 4 families:
Please send in any purchased bologna and cheese early next week so items can be refrigerated and accounted for in preparation for the Day of Service.
If you are able to donate any of these items, your support would be greatly appreciated. Families from any grade level are welcome to contribute.
Thank you again for helping make our Day of Service a success. Your generosity makes a real difference in our community and models the power of service for our students.
January Events & Holidays: From the Desk of Mr. Harrison
January is a meaningful month for learning, reflection, and community connection in RTMSD. As highlighted in our January Events & Holidays newsletter, this month’s observances were thoughtfully selected through collaboration among parents, teachers, students, and administrators to reflect the diverse cultures, histories, and values of our community. By recognizing these events and holidays, we honor the dignity of all members of our school community and continue our shared commitment to learning about one another with respect and understanding. I encourage families to explore the resources provided and join us in these opportunities for growth and engagement.
