Cell Phone Policy Update
Dear BHS Community,
As part of our ongoing commitment to student wellness, engagement, and academic success, we are addressing cell phone use during class time through a proposed addition to the Bedford High School Handbook. We are reaching out to seek your support in reinforcing this important focus on enhancing student learning.
In response to concerns expressed by faculty, staff, and caregivers, we introduced Cell Phone Practices at Bedford High School during the 2024β2025 school year. These practices were developed by a dedicated cell phone committee that consisted of faculty where student and administrative feedback were solicited. We also consulted with a clinical consultant. However, because the practices were not formally included in the handbook, their implementation varied across classrooms. This inconsistency created confusion and made it difficult to hold students accountable in a fair and effective manner.
As we look ahead to the 2025β2026 school year, there has been significant discussion regarding a proposed policy update (linked below) that builds on the pilot from this year. This proposal mirrors the practices we tested, but includes clearly defined consequences and outlines support structures from the main office and counseling team to ensure a consistent and supportive approach.
While multiple policy versions were considered, we prioritized a version that is both consistent and enforceable. If approved by the School Committee, the policy will be closely monitored throughout the 2025β2026 school year. Based on feedback and observed outcomes, we may recommend further adjustments for the 2026β2027 school year.
Please feel free to review the proposal below. A google form is also included for you to provide feedback. We deeply value your partnership and thank you for your continued support. Together, we can foster an environment where students are more focused, engaged, and prepared for success.
Sincerely,
Heather Galante
Principal

Reminders From The School Nurse
Seasonal Allergies
As most of you know, spring allergy season is upon us and I wanted to remind you to be proactive about your children's allergies. Please have them take their prescribed allergy medication before school, so they will be comfortable for the duration of the school day. Depending on the severity of the pollen allergy, those with seasonal allergies can feel pretty miserable and allergy symptoms can have a significant impact on learning. Please reach out to me if you have any questions.
Thank you.
