December 4, 2024

Dear Dr. Green Parents and Guardians,

As we enter to the most wonderful time of the year, I want to thank you for supporting our school activities, commitment to high quality education and fostering a close connection between home and school aiming to gain higher attendance records, higher student's grades, and higher student pride in their performance.

This month is short but filled with many school activities you can get involved and participate. Mr. Rodriguez and his Harking Hawks Choir will join our Fifth Grade Orchestra to delight us with a beautiful Holiday performance on December 12th at 5:30 p.m.; Science Fair is happening on December 13th, please ensure your child's project is turned in on time on December 10th; Movie NIght on December 13th provided by our PTA; join us for our Wellness Wednesday "Jingle Jog" on December 18th during your child's PE time; and our school-wide 12 Days of Holiday Spirit and 12 Days of Giving. Please see the December calendars below.

We will have an Early Release day for all students, faculty and staff on December 20th. Dismissal time will be at 12:00 p.m. please make arrangements to pick up your children on time, as we would like for our faculty and staff to enjoy their afternoon with their loved ones as well. Students will return on January 8th, 2025.

School Targets- Afterschool tutoring is provided for K-5 students as needed. Students are invited based on grades, last year's STAAR results, November STAAR interim results, this year MAP results and class work. If you believe your child needs tutoring, please reach out to your child's teacher.

Attendance Goal: 96% or higher

Our current attendance rate is currently 94.40% showing a slight decrease in the past 2 weeks. Help us reach our goal and send your children to school. If you believe your child needs some motivation and can benefit from our school interventions such as speaking to a teacher, a counselor, our behavior interventionist or myself, please reach out to us. We are here to help you and your children.

Congratulations goes to third grade classes, they have the highest attendance record! 🏆

On behalf of our faculty and staff, we would like to wish you and your family a joyful holiday season, filled with peace, laughter and cherished moments. 🎄

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to me. You can stop me if you see me around the campus or you can email me at gpineda@episd.org. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you and your family.

I would like to close with this quote as our pledge to you:

"Teaching children is an accomplishment;

Getting children excited about learning is an achievement".

By Robert John Meehan

That is what we at Dr. Green believe and strive to accomplish.

Respectfully,

  • Support Offered: Reading

This month we will focus on understanding character traits and feelings. Here are some questions to ask your child as you read together:

  • What things do you know about the character from the way he/she thinks or behaves?

  • How would you describe this character?

  • What values does the character stand for? What does the main character really want?

  • What lessons does the main character learn?
