Catastrophic Leave Bank
Catastrophic Leave Bank: Give a Day, Help a Colleague
Did you know that Temple ISD has a Catastrophic Leave Bank? Each year, employees have the opportunity to donate local leave days to help provide a safety net for fellow employees who experience an unexpected temporary disability or critical illness.
How does the Catastrophic Leave Bank help?
The Leave Bank provides eligible members with additional sick leave when they face a serious medical situation that leaves them without enough available leave. This benefit also extends to the emergency care of an immediate dependent family member.
Interested in participating?
Please review the Catastrophic Leave Bank Policy for complete information about the program and participation requirements.
If you would like to participate, please complete the Online Participation Form and return it to linda.hernandez@tisd.org no later than September 30.
📌 A Few Important Reminders
- Donations are one-time. If you have donated in the past and have not requested leave from the Catastrophic Leave Bank, you do not need to donate again.
- Three local leave days are required to be donated to participate.
- Donations are made annually for employees who are participating and have not previously donated.
Thank you for helping make Temple ISD a community that supports one another when our colleagues need it most.
Early Resignation Incentive
Thinking About Retiring in December? Don’t Miss This TISD Benefit!
While we do not want any of our employees to leave the district, we do want to make you aware of a great incentive for those of you who are thinking about retiring in December.
Temple ISD has a unique program that financially rewards our TRS retiring professional and support staff based on accumulated State and Local Leave Days at the time of retirement.
TISD Board Policy (DEC Local) states: Employees who have completed ten (10) or more years of continuous employment in the District, and who retire under normal-age retirement eligibility qualifications with the Texas Teacher Retirement System (TRS), shall be paid as set out in the current employee handbook for accumulated local leave and state leave. The maximum number of days that shall be paid under this provision shall be 90 total days, e.g., 45 local days paired with 45 state days. Employees must have a “matching” state day for each day of local leave.
FOR EXAMPLE: An employee with 12 days of local leave and 20 days of state leave at the time of resignation shall be paid for a total of 24 days—12 local matched with 12 State.
Compensation for employees who qualify for the accumulated leave incentive is noted in the chart below.
To qualify for the incentive, a written notice of retirement must be submitted to the Superintendent in the form of a letter of Resignation/Retirement no later than 5:00 p.m. on October 1 of the final year of employment for mid-year retirees.
THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT YOUR RESIGNATION FOR RETIREMENT IS OCTOBER 1!
Professional Employees:
- 10-14 years of TISD service - $ 65 per day
- 15-19 years of TISD service - $ 70 per day
- 20+ years of TISD service - $ 80 per day
Non-Exempt Employees:
- 10-14 years of TISD service - $ 50 per day
- 15-19 years of TISD service - $ 55 per day
- 20+ years of TISD service - $ 65 per day
Employees who cease to be employed by the district without ten (10) or more years of continuous employment in the district shall surrender all accumulated local sick leave, even if later rehired by the district. An exception shall be made for employees who leave the district for the purposes of military service and return to the district within 12 months after their release from active duty. All retirees will receive an appropriate recognition award.
THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT YOUR RESIGNATION FOR RETIREMENT IS OCTOBER 1!
Employees who plan to retire under TRS should notify their supervisor and TRS as soon as possible.

Wildcat Spirit Award - Nominate a Colleague
One of the best things about Temple ISD is the people who show up every day with a commitment to our students, our colleagues, and our community. We see it in the small moments, the extra effort, the encouraging words, and the willingness to step up when someone needs help.
That’s Wildcat Spirit! 💙
We invite you to take a moment to recognize a colleague who demonstrates what it means to be a Temple ISD leader by nominating them for a Wildcat Spirit Award.
Our Temple ISD Leadership Framework reminds us that leadership is not limited to a title or position. Leadership is demonstrated through our actions, our relationships, and the way we serve others. Every employee has an opportunity to lead and make a difference.
Think about the colleague who:
- Puts Students First – consistently makes decisions with students and their success at the center.
- Builds Relationships – creates a culture of trust, respect, encouragement, and belonging.
- Leads with Integrity – models professionalism, accountability, and doing what is right—even when no one is watching.
- Collaborates and Supports Others – shares ideas, lends a helping hand, and celebrates the success of others.
- Embraces Growth – looks for ways to improve, learns from challenges, and encourages others to grow.
- Inspires Others – brings positivity, energy, and a commitment to making Temple ISD a great place to work and learn.
You know who they are. Maybe it’s the teacher who always finds a way to make a student feel seen. The custodian who knows every child by name. The secretary who is the first person to offer help. The administrator who quietly supports their staff. Or the colleague who simply makes everyone around them better.
Take a Moment to Recognize a Wildcat! Your nomination is an opportunity to say “I see you. I appreciate you. And you make a difference.”
Please take a few minutes to nominate a colleague who demonstrates Wildcat Spirit and the leadership behaviors we value in Temple ISD.
Because leadership isn't just what we do—it's how we show up for one another.
