Basketball State Tournament Update Basketball State Tournament Update

The Girls' Basketball team made it to the Final Four!

After their win Friday night against St John Paul II, they traveled to West Springfield High School on Tuesday, March 11th, to play #2 Hoosac Valley. It was a tough loss, but the girls should be extremely proud of themselves to have made it to the Final Four!

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

The Spring Musical, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, was a huge success!

Let me second Principal York’s comments, “The incredible cast, crew, and musicians of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, who demonstrated not only their talent but also their teamwork, flexibility, and ability to problem solve! Bravo on an outstanding show! Thanks also to all of the adults who worked overtime to support these students!”

Green Meadow Radon Update Green Meadow Radon Update

We have been learning about and working to resolve the radon levels for some time.

As a reminder in 2022, none of the rooms at Green Meadow tested at or above 4 pCi/L.

As the building project, excavation, and blasting began, the numbers in several classrooms rose above 4 pCi/L.

We have tried a few strategies to reduce the number. We thought that adding the exhaust fans used during COVID would help with air circulation. We were informed that it may likely bring unhealthy air into the building. We didn’t want to exacerbate the situation. We paused and assessed the options.

Our current plan is to repair the univents that became inoperable a couple of years back during a cold spell. Our solution then was to not use them, seal the cold air out, and add space heaters to those rooms. This was approved by the fire department and was working.

We are working with a different HVAC company, to repair those univents as soon as possible. Given the age of the univents, some of the parts have been back-ordered, with a planned delivery date just prior to April vacation. Over the April vacation the univents will be repaired.

We are also having a different HVAC company come and balance the exhaust fans in the classrooms. These have not been balanced any time recently.

And we are having radon mitigation systems installed on the four classrooms that are consistently reading above 4 pCi/L. These are planned to be installed over the April break as well.

It is believed that by repairing the univents, balancing the air flow of the exhaust fans, and installing radon mitigation systems for rooms above 4 pCi/L that should reduce the level of detectable radon in the air.

We will complete a 48-hour radon test to reassess after this work has been completed.

In the meantime, we are currently awaiting the results of our 90-day radon tests due to us in mid-March. This 90 day test will inform us of the average radon level during the last 90 days.
