2nd GradeNewsletter February 16-20

Hello 2nd Grade Families,

We made it to a 4-day weekend! Our 2nd graders have been working so hard, and we are ready for a little extra rest and fun. I hope everyone enjoys this special long weekend and comes back refreshed and ready for more learning!

🌟 Math

In math, we will be working on data analysis. Students will take surveys from their classmates, and practice putting that data into graphs. They will also work on answering and even creating questions about a given graph.

πŸ“š ELAR (English Language Arts & Reading)

In ELAR, we’re exploring fractured fairy tales and fables. Students are enjoying stories with unexpected twists and comparing them to the originals, which helps build critical thinking and creativity.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Social Studies
This week we will be learning about different historical figures and how they showed great citizenship. We will be using this knowledge to create our own currency to honor their memory and the great things they have done for our community.

πŸ” Science

In science, we’re learning about severe weather, including tornadoes, hurricanes, and flooding. Students are discovering how these storms form, their effects, and important safety tips for staying safe during severe weather events. We will use this knowledge to become weather reporters!

Have a great weekend!

  • Due to the snow days that occurred just prior to the original final sales deadline of January 30, Jostens is providing one final opportunity to purchase a yearbook.

The new and final deadline to place your order is Friday, February 20 at midnight.

This will be the last chance to secure a copy, so please be sure to place your order before the deadline. You can place your order here: https://jostensyearbooks.com/?REF=A09801070

  • If you are dropping off your child’s lunch, please make sure to bring it NO LATER than 12:00 PM.

We truly appreciate your help in making sure every child has a stress-free and smooth lunchtime. Thank you for your cooperation and support!

  • Please make sure your child is not bringing any toys to school. Several students are taking their Labubus off their backpacks and playing with them throughout the day or taking them to Specials. These items need to be left at home. Thank you!

  • Along with weekly Phonics practice, have your child read something of their choice for 20 minutes a night or 100 minutes for the week. Please see the Take Home Support pictured here for more guidance on At-Home Phonics activities. This paper is also located in each student's purple folder.

  • Your student is now expected to type in their own username and password to log in to their chromebook. Log in to Skyward to find their username and password and help them memorize it at home!

  • Please be sure to bring a labeled water bottle and healthy snack daily.

  • Please check Take Home folders each week for teacher communication regarding classroom behavior and to empty contents.
