HCS Transitioning to New Online Payment Platform
Huntsville City Schools is transitioning to a new online payment platform for student fees and school-related items called SchoolCash Online.
What it replaces: All online payments for school fees, class items, and activity payments will move to SchoolCash Online.
What is NOT changing: Meal payments (CNP) will stay on EZSchoolPay. Lunch accounts will continue to function as usual through EZSchoolPay.
Parent Registration Process
Parents and guardians will need to create a free account and attach their student(s) to their profile. They can register in two ways:
Invitation Email: Primary guardians listed in PowerSchool will receive an automatic email invitation.
School Website: Parents can also register directly at huntsvillecs.schoolcashonline.com or by clicking the School Fees button on any Huntsville City Schools website.
Once registered, parents will automatically receive email notifications whenever new fees or items are added for their child.

October: Own the Opportunity
College Academy Magnet
October is here, and our College Academy students have a lot to be proud of.
We have had a strong start to the year, and now we are entering an important stretch filled with midterm feedback, standardized testing, spring course planning, and new growth opportunities.
Our October theme is:
OWN THE OPPORTUNITY
Success in College Academy is about more than earning college credit. It is about learning how to manage your time, use your resources, advocate for yourself, and make intentional decisions about your future.
UAH Midterms: Check Your Progress
UAH lists October 2–9 as the midterm grading period for 100- and 200-level courses.
Students should take time to check:
UAH Canvas
Current grades
Missing assignments
Upcoming tests and projects
Professor feedback
If you are doing well, keep building.
If you need to improve, now is the perfect time to make adjustments.
Midterm grades are not the finish line. They are a checkpoint.
Fall Break: Know Both Calendars
College Academy students are part of both Jemison and UAH, so it is important to follow both calendars.
Huntsville City Schools Fall Break: October 5–9
UAH Fall Break: October 8–9
That means UAH classes may still meet on October 5–7.
Students enrolled at UAH should continue checking their university schedules, Canvas, email, and professor announcements.
If your UAH class meets, please attend.
Learning to manage two calendars is part of becoming an independent college student.
October 13: PSAT
Our Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will have the opportunity to take the PSAT on:
Tuesday, October 13
The PSAT is another opportunity to measure progress and strengthen college-readiness skills.
For our Juniors, the PSAT/NMSQT is especially important because it can lead to consideration for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Many of our Juniors performed very well in Math and English on the PreACT, and others have been working hard to improve.
That preparation matters.
Our goal is for our Juniors to compete at a high level and position themselves for National Merit recognition.
October 15: PreACT
Our College Academy Sophomores are required to take the:
PreACT – Thursday, October 15
The PreACT gives students valuable information about their strengths and areas for growth in:
English
Math
Reading
Science
Use the results to set goals and continue preparing for the ACT.
Your score is information you can use to improve.
Juniors: CAMP Matters
Juniors should continue bringing their Green CAMP Folder with their goal-setting information and academic data.
College Academy Juniors are expected to attend CAMP on Friday afternoons.
CAMP is designed to help students:
Review goals
Strengthen ACT skills
Track progress
Receive support
Prepare for upcoming assessments
You have already done a lot of good work. CAMP gives you another opportunity to keep building on it.
Spring 2027 Priority Registration Is Coming
College Academy students receive priority registration at UAH, and spring course planning will begin soon.
Before registration, students should make sure there are no holds on their UAH account.
Please pay special attention to the Chargers Health Portal and make sure all required health and immunization information has been completed.
A hold can delay registration and may affect which courses or sections are available.
Check early so you are ready when registration opens.
Building Your Degree Pathway
Students will work with Dr. Brown and Mrs. Kellee Crawford, UAH Advisor, when selecting Spring 2027 courses.
Together, we will make sure students are:
Meeting Alabama graduation requirements
Staying on track for high school graduation
Completing courses in the correct sequence
Meeting prerequisites
Selecting classes that support their intended degree pathway
Our goal is not simply to accumulate college credits.
We are building pathways.
College Writing Students
Students enrolled in College Writing I – EH 101 should continue monitoring their progress carefully.
College Academy students need to earn at least a C in College Writing I before moving into College Writing II.
If you need support, use the resources available to you.
Talk to your professor, visit the UAH Student Success Center, and ask for help early.
Strong students use strong resources.
Use the UAH Student Success Center
The UAH Student Success Center is an excellent resource for our students.
Support includes:
Tutoring
Writing assistance
Academic coaching
Study support
Time-management strategies
College independence does not mean doing everything by yourself.
It means knowing how to use the resources around you.

Own the Opportunity
October is full of opportunities to grow.
Our Freshmen are building strong habits.
Our Sophomores are learning more about their academic strengths.
Our Juniors are preparing to compete at higher levels.
Our Seniors are preparing for their next chapter.
And all of our College Academy students are learning how to become increasingly independent and intentional about their futures.
Keep showing up.
Keep asking questions.
Keep using your resources.
Keep setting goals.
Keep moving forward.
OWN THE OPPORTUNITY.
Invest Fully. Persevere Always. Achieve Excellence.

HCS Dress Code Policy
We are committed to preparing our students for college and careers beyond high schools. To be successful in either arena, students must dress in a neat, clean, and appropriate manner and in clothing that encourages an atmosphere conducive to learning, work, and discipline. Students will not wear any article of clothing or display any insignia or sign that shows disrespect for any person, creed, race, color, sex, or nationality, or that may lead to a disruption of the learning environment. Our goal to prepare students for the future aligns with state educational authorities and court decisions that have determined that style of dress and hair should not disrupt classes, interfere with learning, or prevent instruction, and should comply with state health and safety standards.
As teachers and administrators enforce this dress code, they should be aware of HCS’ desire to keep students in the classroom to the maximum extent possible. Therefore, if a student’s dress is non-conforming to the dress code but not disruptive to the learning environment, the teacher or administrator should address this issue discreetly with the student in a way that minimizes lost instructional time.
No Outside Food
As we understand the importance of having a nutritious meal, Huntsville City Schools Child Nutrition Program will be providing breakfast, lunch and supper each day to our students.
Please encourage your child to eat healthy meals and participate in the JHS CNP program daily.
Students are prohibited from bringing or having outside food delivered (fast food/UberEats/DoorDash) to the school. Parents will not be allowed to drop off outside food (restaurant prepared food).
TARDY POLICY
· 3 tardies equal 1/2 day ISS (in-school suspension)
· 6 tardies equal full day ISS
· 12 tardies equal 2 full days ISS
· after 12 tardies, the student will receive 1 day of ISS for each tardy
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Students will be required to report to the school each day by 8:30am. Attendance will be taken each block. Parents will receive a automatic call notification if you child is absent or fails to report to his/her classes.
Good student attendance enhances learning. When a student is not in school, he/she misses valuable instructional time. HCS views attendance and academic achievement as equally important and has policies, procedures, and supports designed to encourage students to attend school.
A student may have a total of 7 excused absences for illness without a doctor’s statement. After an accumulation of 7 excused absences for illness without a doctor’s statement, the student will receive unexcused absences for illness unless absences are documented with a doctor’s statement. Any exception to this policy will require a doctor’s documentation of a chronic illness that causes absences which may not comply with the
attendance policy.
Students and parents are required to attend Early Warning sessions when students have been referred for one of the following reasons or combination of reasons:
• Five or more unexcused absences
• Seven or more questionable excused absences which were not satisfactorily explained
• Ten or more unexcused tardies
* All students/parents (K-12) are subject to the regulations of the Early Warning Program.
Attendance Office PROCEDURES
The administration at Mae C Jemison School understands that students may have to attend doctor, dentist, or other appointments during the school day. We would ask that you minimize these absences as much as possible. Daily INSTRUCTION is IMPORTANT !
The Attendance Office is located in the rear of the building (inside the competition gym lobby).
Any time your child is absent from school, a doctor excuse or parent note must be submitted to the Attendance Office.
o Please submit a copy of the doctors excuse or parent note to the Attendance Office or email copies to deidre.walton@hsv-k12.org or terrance.young@hsv-k12.org.
