HCS Transitioning to New Online Payment Platform

Huntsville City Schools is transitioning to a new online payment platform for student fees and school-related items called SchoolCash Online.

  • What it replaces: All online payments for school fees, class items, and activity payments will move to SchoolCash Online.

  • What is NOT changing: Meal payments (CNP) will stay on EZSchoolPay. Lunch accounts will continue to function as usual through EZSchoolPay.

Parent Registration Process

Parents and guardians will need to create a free account and attach their student(s) to their profile. They can register in two ways:

  1. Invitation Email: Primary guardians listed in PowerSchool will receive an automatic email invitation.

  2. School Website: Parents can also register directly at huntsvillecs.schoolcashonline.com or by clicking the School Fees button on any Huntsville City Schools website.

Once registered, parents will automatically receive email notifications whenever new fees or items are added for their child.

🐆 Dean’s Notes

November: Grateful for the Growth, Focused on the Finish

College Academy Magnet

November gives us a wonderful opportunity to reflect on how far our students have come while preparing for a strong finish to the semester.

Our theme this month is:

Grateful for the Growth. Focused on the Finish.

I am incredibly proud of our College Academy scholars.

UAH midterm reports have been released, and the great majority of our students are excelling in their university courses. That is something worth celebrating.

Our students are balancing Jemison, UAH, athletics, band, clubs, activities, family responsibilities, and so much more. Their success reflects their hard work, growing independence, and the tremendous support of our families, faculty, staff, and UAH partners.

Now, let’s finish strong.

Spring Registration: Plan With Purpose

Spring 2027 registration is underway at UAH, and we are very grateful that most of our College Academy students have already registered.

As a reminder:

All College Academy students must meet with Dr. Brown or Mrs. James to review their Credit Review Form before registering.

This helps us make sure students remain:

  • On track for Alabama high school graduation requirements

  • On track within College Academy

  • Progressing appropriately through UAH coursework

  • Building toward their intended college and degree pathway

Students should also continue working with their UAH academic advisor, Mrs. Crawford, as they build their university schedules.

We are not simply collecting credits. We are building pathways.

If you have not completed your registration or credit review, please make this a priority.

Celebrate the Progress

Midterm grades provide an important checkpoint, and we have so much to celebrate.

The great majority of our students are performing very well at UAH.

Keep doing what is working:

Attend class.

Check Canvas.

Communicate with professors.

Complete assignments on time.

Use tutoring and academic resources.

Ask for help when you need it.

Success at the college level does not happen by accident. It comes from consistent habits.

We see your hard work, and we are proud of you.

Juniors: CAMP Continues

Juniors, please continue to make Friday afternoon CAMP sessions a priority.

Many of you are taking a fall ACT, and those results will give us valuable information about your current strengths and areas for growth.

We will use that data, along with your PreACT results, classroom performance, Green CAMP Folder goals, and other assessment information, to build an even stronger preparation plan for the school-day ACT at Jemison in April.

The goal is not simply to take another ACT.

The goal is to improve.

Every CAMP session, practice activity, classroom lesson, and ACT attempt gives us more information about how to help you reach your goals.

Keep working. Your growth matters.

Finish Your UAH Courses Strong

We are approaching the final weeks of the UAH semester.

The Fall 2026 withdrawal deadline for 15-week UAH courses was October 28, so students should now remain especially focused on successfully completing their courses.

Students should know:

  • Their current grade

  • Remaining assignments

  • Upcoming exams and projects

  • Their professor’s final-exam expectations

  • Where they can receive academic assistance

If your grade is strong, protect it.

If your grade needs improvement, take action now.

Use the UAH Student Success Center, communicate with your professors, attend tutoring, and ask for help early.

Finish what you started.

Important UAH Dates Ahead

Please keep these dates on your calendar:

November 3
UAH registration available to all currently enrolled students

November 23–27
UAH Thanksgiving Holiday – No Classes

December 3

Last Day of UAH Classes

December 4

UAH Study Day

December 7–11

UAH Final Exams

Students should check their individual courses for their specific final-exam dates, times, and expectations.

Start preparing for finals before December arrives.

College Academy Magnet Is Growing

The College Academy Magnet application window is currently open, and we are excited about the students and families who are showing interest in our program.

That interest is also a tremendous compliment to our current students and families.

When prospective students hear about College Academy, tour Jemison and UAH, meet our scholars, and see what our students are accomplishing, they begin to imagine themselves having the same opportunities.

Our current students are some of our greatest ambassadors.

Every time you succeed in a UAH classroom, represent Jemison well on campus, participate in an activity, help another student, or share your experience with a prospective family, you help tell the College Academy story.

Your success is helping inspire the next generation of College Academy scholars.

Thank you to our students and families for continuing to represent our program so well.

Grateful for the Growth. Focused on the Finish.

November is a month of gratitude, and we have a lot to be thankful for.

We are grateful for students who are challenging themselves.

We are grateful for families who support them.

We are grateful for our Jemison faculty and staff.

We are grateful for our partnership with the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

And we are especially grateful for the opportunity to watch our students grow into increasingly confident and independent college students.

But our work is not finished.

Register with purpose.

Attend CAMP.

Prepare for the ACT.

Check your grades.

Use your resources.

Prepare for finals.

Finish strong.

Be grateful for the growth—and stay focused on the finish.

Invest Fully. Persevere Always. Achieve Excellence.

As always, please let me know if I can be of any assistance or support.

Dr. Benjamin Brown
Dean, College Academy Magnet

HCS Dress Code Policy

We are committed to preparing our students for college and careers beyond high schools. To be successful in either arena, students must dress in a neat, clean, and appropriate manner and in clothing that encourages an atmosphere conducive to learning, work, and discipline. Students will not wear any article of clothing or display any insignia or sign that shows disrespect for any person, creed, race, color, sex, or nationality, or that may lead to a disruption of the learning environment. Our goal to prepare students for the future aligns with state educational authorities and court decisions that have determined that style of dress and hair should not disrupt classes, interfere with learning, or prevent instruction, and should comply with state health and safety standards.

As teachers and administrators enforce this dress code, they should be aware of HCS’ desire to keep students in the classroom to the maximum extent possible. Therefore, if a student’s dress is non-conforming to the dress code but not disruptive to the learning environment, the teacher or administrator should address this issue discreetly with the student in a way that minimizes lost instructional time.

No Outside Food

As we understand the importance of having a nutritious meal, Huntsville City Schools Child Nutrition Program will be providing breakfast, lunch and supper each day to our students.

Please encourage your child to eat healthy meals and participate in the JHS CNP program daily.

Students are prohibited from bringing or having outside food delivered (fast food/UberEats/DoorDash) to the school. Parents will not be allowed to drop off outside food (restaurant prepared food).

TARDY POLICY

· 3 tardies equal 1/2 day ISS (in-school suspension)

· 6 tardies equal full day ISS

· 12 tardies equal 2 full days ISS

· after 12 tardies, the student will receive 1 day of ISS for each tardy

User uploaded image

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Students will be required to report to the school each day by 8:30am. Attendance will be taken each block. Parents will receive a automatic call notification if you child is absent or fails to report to his/her classes.

Good student attendance enhances learning. When a student is not in school, he/she misses valuable instructional time. HCS views attendance and academic achievement as equally important and has policies, procedures, and supports designed to encourage students to attend school.

A student may have a total of 7 excused absences for illness without a doctor’s statement. After an accumulation of 7 excused absences for illness without a doctor’s statement, the student will receive unexcused absences for illness unless absences are documented with a doctor’s statement. Any exception to this policy will require a doctor’s documentation of a chronic illness that causes absences which may not comply with the

attendance policy.

Students and parents are required to attend Early Warning sessions when students have been referred for one of the following reasons or combination of reasons:

• Five or more unexcused absences

• Seven or more questionable excused absences which were not satisfactorily explained

• Ten or more unexcused tardies

* All students/parents (K-12) are subject to the regulations of the Early Warning Program.

Attendance Office PROCEDURES

The administration at Mae C Jemison School understands that students may have to attend doctor, dentist, or other appointments during the school day. We would ask that you minimize these absences as much as possible. Daily INSTRUCTION is IMPORTANT !

The Attendance Office is located in the rear of the building (inside the competition gym lobby).

Any time your child is absent from school, a doctor excuse or parent note must be submitted to the Attendance Office.

o Please submit a copy of the doctors excuse or parent note to the Attendance Office or email copies to deidre.walton@hsv-k12.org or terrance.young@hsv-k12.org.

o Please notify Nurse Tass trunecia.manning@hsv-k12.org if you have any issues relative to sickness/illness/medication.

Check-outs:

A student can only be checked out by an adult that is listed in PowerSchool. The adult must have a valid ID in order to check out a JHS student.

There will be no check-outs over the phone or via email.
