Tie-ing it All Together!
Mr. Frederick visited with the senior youth internship students in Mrs. Lehrke's class last week.
Youth internship class allows students to gain authentic, real-world experience in business and industry by spending time at placements within the community including CDP Health Care, Big Stone Therapies, and Tri-State Building Center.
During Mr. Frederick's visit he discussed resumes, job interviews and other important information to prepare the students for their internship sites, as well as life after SHS. He also spoke about dressing for success and showed them how to look extra professional by knowing how to tie a tie!
SADD Students Plan Red Ribbon Week
Next week SHS SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) is sponsoring some Red Ribbon Week activities. Red Ribbon week was started in 1988 in order to promote a drug-free lifestyle and spread awareness on the dangers of drug use.
Part of next week's fun will be a Red Ribbon hunt. Each day Red Ribbon cards will be placed throughout the high school. If you find one, turn it in to Mrs. Filipek for a prize. Ribbons not found will be left in their same spot for the next day.
Trivia questions are also a part of the week's activities! The trivia questions will be displayed on the TV screens. Answers can be dropped in designated containers on 1st and 2nd floor by the tables. Each day a winner will be drawn from those who answer the trivia question correctly.
Celebrating FFA on the National Scale
Ten members of the Sisseton FFA chapter, along with their advisor Mrs. Schaefer and other delegates from northeast South Dakota, traveled to Indianapolis for the 99th National FFA Convention this week. In addition to the convention, students toured the dairy and hog farms at Fair Oaks Farms and learned about speciality crops, value-added products, and agritourism at Beasley's Orchard.
Bake Sale
Student Council is hosting a bake sale on Thursday, October 29th during ACT A and B. All items are $1.
Come check it out and get a spooky treat!
Falling for Science!
Mrs. Meland's physical science students were in the lab this week testing the effects of gravity versus air resistance. They dropped different papers - one flat, one lightly crumpled, one really squished together. They timed the fall time and made comparisons while working with their group members.
Key Club Raising Awareness
The SHS Key Club hosts a "sleep out" every year to raise money for the food pantry. This year Aesa, Christian, Maryann, Karlee, and Nova were the club participants. Key Clubbers sleep out in boxes to simulate the challenges the homeless experience. Friday night's temperatures reached 35 degrees, so members had a good idea of some of the discomforts the homeless can face.
Get Caught Doing Something Good!
A shout out to SCARLETT HANSON and CARSON FISHER this week for stepping up and helping out.
Scarlett took the initiative to fix Ms. Chan's broken stapler without being asked, which Ms. Chan truly appreciated.
After finishing his work in Mr. Holler's class, Carson was spotted helping a classmate understand his math assignment. Thanks for helping make SHS a more kind place this week!
