This Week at PHS
As October comes to a close, we have a fun week ahead — from Red Ribbon Week celebrations to Halloween festivities and a long list of student accomplishments across academics, arts, and athletics.
While we’re having fun with themed dress-up days, we also want to keep safety and respect at the center of our celebrations. Students are encouraged to show creativity and school spirit, but costumes must remain school-appropriate and faces should not be covered. This ensures that everyone in the building can be easily identified and that we know only PHS students and staff are on campus.
Beyond the costumes and spirit days, this week reflects what makes Pearland High School special — a community that celebrates learning, achievement, and one another. Whether it’s supporting classroom innovation through the Education Foundation’s Give a Grant program, preparing our seniors for graduation milestones, or cheering on our Oilers in competition, every part of campus is alive with purpose and pride.
Let’s finish October strong, have fun, and keep showing what it means to be an Oiler.

Support Classroom Innovation — Give a Grant!
Every great classroom begins with the right tools and opportunities. Through the Pearland ISD Education Foundation’s Give a Grant program, families can directly support innovative teacher projects — from hands-on lab experiences to creative learning spaces.
Some of our PHS teachers are still seeking mini-grant funding (up to $250).

Even small contributions make a big difference when combined with others. Together, we can turn great ideas into incredible learning experiences for our students.
Senior News — Countdown to Graduation!
The countdown to graduation is officially on for the Class of 2025. Our seniors have worked hard to get here, and the coming months will be full of opportunities to celebrate their achievements and finalize important graduation details.
December 2 – Senior Panoramic & Balfour Information Session
On Tuesday, December 2, seniors will take their Class Panoramic Photo. During this event, Balfour representatives will speak briefly with students about graduation timelines, cap and gown requirements, and upcoming deadlines. They will also distribute graduation packets that include ordering information for regalia, announcements, and senior keepsakes. Extra packets will be available in the front office for any student who misses the session.
December 4–5 – Balfour Orders at “The P”
Balfour will return to campus Wednesday and Thursday, December 4–5, during all lunches at “The P” (near the main entrance). Seniors can order their caps, gowns, announcements, and accessories on-site, and juniors who are ready to commemorate their journey can also order class rings at this time.
Graduation will be here before we know it — so seniors, stay on top of these important dates, and let’s make the year one to remember!
Cell Phones and Headphones
We’ve noticed an increase in students using wired headphones connected to devices kept in their pockets during the school day. While it might appear that they’re simply listening to music, in many cases these are personal communication devices, which are not permitted during instructional time.
Our staff will be addressing this behavior throughout the week to make sure all students remain focused, engaged, and following campus expectations. Thank you for reinforcing these guidelines at home — together, we can help our students stay present and ready to learn.
Celebrations
Volleyball
What an incredible season for Oiler Volleyball! Our program has reason to celebrate across every level both JV and Freshman teams finished as district champions, which speaks volumes about their teamwork, and dedication. The Varsity squad now turns its focus to the first round of the playoffs, facing Ridge Point this Thursday, October 30, at 7:00 PM at Phillips Field House in Pasadena. They’ll be the second match in a double-header, and we’re ready to fill the stands with maroon. Congratulations to our student-athletes and coaches for setting the standard of excellence on and off the court!
Choir Brings Broadway to Pearland
The PHS Choir brought down the house last week with its spectacular fall performance, Broadway Nights. From classic show tunes to modern hits, the students’ talent and energy filled the auditorium. Their artistry reflects countless hours of rehearsal and hard work. If you missed this show, keep an eye out for their next event — our choir continues to set the bar high and inspire audiences across Pearland.
Football Clinches District Title
Friday night’s 21–14 victory over Shadow Creek sealed a district championship for Pearland Football in dramatic fashion. The team now enjoys a well-earned bye week before hitting the road to face South Houston next Thursday. A win would cap off a perfect regular season, sending the Oilers into playoffs with serious momentum. Congratulations to Coach Gotte and the entire team for their incredible effort and leadership!
Welding Team Earns Reserve Grand Champion
Our PISD Welding Team is heating up the competition! This month, they brought home Reserve Grand Champion honors at the San Antonio Rodeo Inaugural Welding Build-Off, earning a spot at the Texas High School Welding Series State Build-Off. This impressive team — Thomas Preston, Rolando DeLeon, Jase Cortazar, and Manuel Cuevas — showcased exceptional craftsmanship, precision, and teamwork.
HOSA’s Annual Blood Drive Saves Lives
Our Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) members held their Annual Fall Blood Drive, hosting 83 successful donors and collecting 89 total units of blood — enough to potentially save 267 lives. This event demonstrates what Oiler service looks like in action. Thank you to everyone who donated and supported this life-saving cause!
Karly Anderson Represents Texas at Nationals!
This week, Karly Anderson travels to Indianapolis, Indiana to represent Texas FFA at the National Extemporaneous Speaking Contest! To earn this honor, Karly competed against over 300 students across the state, ultimately taking home the Texas State Champion title. Join us in wishing her the very best as she competes for a National Championship!

As we wrap up October, a few important reminders:

-
Parents: Please help reinforce these expectations at home and check your student’s grades in Skyward regularly as we approach progress reporting.
