Reminder: "Snow Days" are now E-Learning Days
Sadly, our lovely fall weather cannot last forever. As the snow started to fall this week, the H-F FYI would like to remind families that starting last year H-F now has E-Learning Days In lieu of traditional "snow days." E-learning will be utilized for days when inclement weather (or other circumstances) prohibit safe travel and learning in school. An E-Learning Day would be primarily an asynchronous experience for students in that they will work independently on assignments with teachers readily available to provide support via email. Teachers would supply learning resources and assignments that are consistent with course expectations and outcomes. On an E-Learning Day:
- The day would follow the scheduled daily bell schedule (Block 1, 2, 3 or Viking Day).
- Teachers would post lessons for the day in each Google Classroom by 8:30 a.m.
- Teachers would be available to communicate with students via email from 7:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m., unless the conditions of the emergency day prohibit this type of communication.
Student Attendance Steps:
- Navigate to classroom.google.com, either via your web browser or via your Google Classroom mobile app.
- Select your Announcements class (FR, SO, JR, or SR).
- Click on the Classwork section/tab.
- Click on the E-Learning Attendance link & complete the form by 9 a.m.
Families would be notified of an E-Learning Day directly from H-F administration via the School Messenger phone and email service. Notification would also be posted on the school website. Please know that H-F will make every effort to have in-person learning, when it is safe and conditions allow. Decisions made regarding weather-related emergency days are made very carefully with consideration given to travel conditions, bus routes and, of course, the safety of our students and staff. For questions about e-learning, please contact Principal Dr. Alexander at 708-335-5541, clinton.alexander@hf233.org.
There isn't snow on the path yet ... in this latest episode of Walking the Path with Wakeley Superintendent Dr. Wakeley introduces you to D233 Board of Education President Gerald Pauling, H-F Class of 1985, as they walked the path on a lovely October morning. Make a Difference, H-F!
Yes, that was H-F parent and Flossmoor Mayor Michelle Nelson driving along the perimeter of our campus last Wednesday, drilling 16 holes then planting trees to help beautify and green up H-F! The funding for the trees came from CRTI Morton Arboretum, and it was a continuation of the Plant the Gem project. Mayor Nelson was assisted by Stephanie Wright, Flossmoor Program & Event Coordinator and alumni mom, and Tristan Shaw, Flossmoor Green Commissioner.
