Beginning a new chapter
Some thoughts for the starting school year

Quick Reminders
Early Release Monday's
This is a reminder that EVERY Monday is early release. Students will be dismissed at 1:30 P.M. September 1st is a Holiday so there is no school and September 8th is a teacher work day so there is no school.
Message from the Principal
We are officially 1 full week into our school year. Staff and students have been working tremendously and we are off to such a great start. Some of the highlights have been our welcome assembly where we introduced the staff and had our 5th graders write notes to the kindergarten students to welcome our younger kids to Mesa. In the classroom, students have been learning about literacy, math and science while taking their beginning of the year testing. Students Kinder through 5th are taking DIBELS and STAR beginning of the year testing as a baseline to see what we have remembered from last year.
UPDATES
Celebrating a Strong Start – Our teachers have shared how impressed they are with students’ energy, curiosity, and respect for routines. Thank you for reinforcing positive habits at home—it makes a big difference!
-
PBIS Focus: Respect in Action – This week we emphasized showing respect in hallways, classrooms, and common areas. Encourage your child to share one way they practiced respect during the week.
PTO Support Needed – Our Parent–Teacher Organization helps make school events and activities possible, and we’d love more family involvement. Join us for Coffee with the Principal, September 3rd, to learn how you can get connected.
Family Engagement
Now that the first week is complete, consider setting up a simple end-of-week reflection with your child. Ask them to share:
-
One thing they enjoyed,
-
One challenge they faced, and
-
One goal for next week.
This helps students process their experiences and feel supported as they build confidence for the weeks ahead.
CDE and CDPHE Department Measles Exposure
Parent Notification
With the recent resurgence of measles, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has created an exposure location website. We encourage all families to consult this resource regularly to see if they may have been exposed.
Dress Code Reminder
Please ensure your student follows the school and district dress code each day. Beginning next week, families will be contacted if students are deemed out of dress code. Thank you for helping us maintain a positive learning environment. For more information, please refer to the family handbook or district message.
