WHS Principal's Update
4/12/24
By Dear Wolverines,
A reminder that Monday, April 22, 2024, will be the first day that our Metal Detectors will be turned on. This process is part of our District's enhanced security protocols. The students have been doing a fantastic job, thus far, of planning, preparing and practicingโฆ. We are already doing many of the things below! However, just wanted to refresh you on expectations!
Students should be prepared as they approach the intake stations.
Remember the following:
The school building will still open at 6:45 am.
It takes a little longer to enter campus, so arrive by 7:20 am.
Students must wear their IDs around their necks at all times.
Students without an ID will be redirected to an ID Kiosk. If they are late because they have to get an ID, then a tardy will be added to SIS.
Students are to place their backpacks/large bags in front of them (the purpose of this is to be able to easily put their belongings away after they walk through the metal detector and can continue moving toward their classroom)
Students must take out the following items before entering the metal detector
Large 3-ring binders
Chromebooks/laptops
Metal water bottlesโLarge Stanley type cups may be subject to further search
Umbrellas
Sports bags and Instruments โ subject to further search
Cell phones, iPads, chargers, spiral notebooks, and similar items should stay in the backpacks!
If the metal detector alerts:
Students will be directed to walk through the screeners again without their bag(s).
The student will then report to the screening area
Administration will inspect the belongings that triggered the alert in the screening area.
The student may be wanded if necessary
The metal detectors do not replace the need for all students, parents & community members to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity or individuals immediately.
As always, if you see or hear something, you MUST say something!
All students have the Fortify Florida App on their school-issued devices. Fortify Florida is for serious threats that may be reported 24/7.
During school hours, students should tell a trusted adult when they have information related to school threats.
Thank you in advance for your support! I fully anticipate a very smooth transition to this metal detector implementation! Below is a quick video from some of our students in Palm Beach County regarding expectations!
From the Office of Chief Sarah Mooney and School Police! ๐ฎ๐ปโโ๏ธ
Check out the video below where Chief Mooney alerts students and families of the following essential safety topics:
- How to Report a Threat or Suspicious Activity
- Alert students and families about the prohibition and consequences of making threats and bringing prohibited items to school, such as tasers.
- Encourages students to seek assistance when needed.
Parking on Campus
All parking spots have been completely sold out and the online application is now closed for the remainder of the year. Remember, without a valid parking pass, you are prohibited to park on campus!
Thank you for your cooperation!
The application to park on campus next year will be active in mid-July! Stay tuned.
