Bogota Middle School Update
September 12, 2025
Essentials
We have completed our first full week of school, and I want to thank our wonderful students, staff, and parents for making this one of the smoothest beginnings to a school year. Students have been on time and in uniform, and I hope to see this continue throughout the year. Please also remind your child to bring a fully charged Chromebook each day so they are prepared for success.
-
Forms: Any students who have not yet handed in forms to their teachers must do so immediately. The signed Student Code of Conduct/Discipline Policy is due no later than September 19.
-
7th Grade: Teachers distributed information regarding class dues and other forms. Please return all forms and payments by the noted due date.
Clubs: Please see the BMS Club Interest Meetings section for dates and times of club interest meetings. Encourage your children to join an after school club. We have Photography, Dance, Jr. YAC, Student Council, Multi-cultural, Gardening, Art, STEM, and Theater/Drama Club available.
Arrival & Dismissal Reminders
-
Do not drop students off across the street in the morning. All drop-offs must be on the side closest to the building to avoid unsafe street crossings.
-
If you are picking your child up after school, please park in the church parking lot down the block and walk up to meet them.
-
Remind children walking to and from school to use corners and crosswalks, and to cross with crossing guards whenever possible.
Technology & Student Well-Being
We want to emphasize once again the importance of monitoring your child’s technology use. Group chats and messaging often start out as fun but can quickly turn negative. Even if a child is not directly posting inappropriate comments, being a bystander without speaking up or leaving the group can still contribute to the problem. These situations not only affect student mindset but can also spill into school and negatively impact our culture. Please reach out to us with any concerns. We would much rather address small issues early before they become larger ones.
Lunch Forms
Please click on the link below for lunch information and to fill out the annual lunch form if you have not already done so!!!!
Picture Day
BMS Picture Day is set for October 3rd. Forms will be sent home in the near future and a link will be provided for those who want to pay online.
Thank you again for your continued partnership. We wish all of our families a great weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, bright and early!

A Look Back
Remembering September 11th
Students in Mrs. Del Rosso's 7th grade Civics Classes were introduced to the events of September 11th by watching today's news broadcast from World A to Z. Students also learned about the story of Welles Remy Crowther, a 24 year old trader and former volunteer firefighter who lost his life saving others through the documentary titled "the Red Bandana".
In Ms. Smith's 6th grade Language Arts Class, they read "The Great Boat Lift of 9/11: A Heroic Evacuation." Students discussed heroism and completed three open-end response questions, reflecting on how we could help others.
Pictures of Mrs. Del Rosso's Class below.
7th Grade ELA Scavenger Hunt
After completing beginning of year benchmark testing in Mrs. Tomlinson's class, 7th grade ELA students were tasked with a classroom library scavenger hunt. Students browsed thousands of books to find their next potential reads.

Nurse Reminders!
6th Grade Parents
The New Jersey Department of Health requires all students entering the sixth grade to have the following immunizations:
One dose of Tdap vaccine
One dose of Meningococcal vaccine
Please submit proof of immunization as soon as possible to avoid potential exclusion from school.
If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse.
Thank you for your cooperation.
General Reminders
- Students should eat breakfast before coming to school. If they wish, breakfast is available for purchase in the cafeteria beginning at 7:30 a.m.
-
Students should get a good night’s sleep. Even though they are older, setting a consistent bedtime and shutting down technology at a set time is very important for rest and readiness.
-
If there are any medical issues the school should be aware of, please contact the main office immediately.
Please make sure your child is feeling well when they come to school. The policy is that your child must be fever free without any medication for 24 hours before returning to school.
If Your child is going to be absent, PLEASE CALL THE SCHOOL AND LEAVE A MESSAGE with your child's name, homeroom, and reason for absence. Attendance is very important in middle school.
Please reach out to the school if you have any questions or concerns.
