February Update @ Pekin Elementary
Empowering ALL students to excel, innovate and lead
Dear Pekin Families,
As we dive into February, we’re proud of the hard work our students and staff have been putting into mid-year assessments. These assessments help us measure student growth and identify areas where support is needed. On Monday, February 10, during our professional development day, our staff will analyze this data to form new intervention groups. This process ensures that we are using data to drive our instructional decisions and meet the needs of every student.
February is packed with exciting events, including:
- Our elementary field trip to the Iowa Wolves Educational Game Day
- The 100th Day of School
- Valentine’s Day classroom parties
- Parent-Teacher Conferences
- The NED Show (an elementary assembly promoting positive attitudes)
- Plus, all the daily fun and learning that makes Pekin Elementary special!
We also want to thank you for your continued communication, especially during this season of illness. Your collaboration with Di, Dana, and staff, as well as providing important doctor’s notes, helps us stay compliant with the new school attendance law. We truly appreciate your support in keeping us informed of your child’s needs.
As winter keeps us indoors more often, we’ve noticed a slight increase in student behaviors. Cold weather can be challenging, but we continue to reinforce the importance of following school-wide expectations—being respectful, responsible, and safe. Please continue these conversations at home to help us create a positive environment for all students.
We also recognize that all emotions are valid. At Pekin, we’re working with students on identifying and expressing their emotions in healthy, appropriate ways. Learning to respond to emotions constructively is an important part of growth, and we’re proud of how our students are developing these skills.
Last week, we celebrated a major accomplishment—reaching our PBIS ticket goal of 5,000! It was an awesome celebration, and we’re excited to set a new goal and work toward another school-wide reward. We will continue to praise positive behaviors and address challenges with thoughtful approaches and appropriate consequences.
Thank you for your ongoing communication and collaboration. Together, we make Pekin Elementary a wonderful place to learn and grow.
