Students and Parents are Invited to Join us for our Kindergarten Orientation Program:

Hoover will implement its Annual Kindergarten Orientation program on August 31, 2021 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. During this program, students and parents will have the opportunity to meet Dr. G., our phenomenal Kindergarten Team, and visit their classroom! Students will be able to drop off their school supplies in their classroom so they will not have to carry them with them on their first day of school. Students will have the opportunity to ride a School Bus around the block, if they would like to practice that important skill.

Students and Parents Are Invited to Join us for our Open House Program (Grades 1 - 4):

From 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 31, Hoover will implement its Annual Open House Program for students in grades one through four. This is a very informal program. There is not really a specific start time. Some parents and students stop by at 9:30 am. Some stop by at 9:45 am. Some stop by at 10:00 am. Students can visit their classroom, drop off their school supplies, and say hello to their new teacher. Teachers will implement a formal Back to School Night program on the evening of September 23, 2021. Please join us for this exciting event. Please look for the PTO Table in the lobby so that you can sign up to support our PTO!

Welcome Letter from The Principal:

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Welcome to Hoover Elementary School! Our teachers and support staff use the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, the Responsive Classroom program, and "The 7 Habits of Happy Kids" program to teach our students the skills that are required for success in school, in college, and in the workforce. Our teachers use the Morning Meeting routine to teach our students how to be “Respectful, Responsible, and Safe.” We are very proud of our “Safe, Joyful, and Challenging” learning community. We want all of our students, parents, and staff members to feel welcome in our school!

The Pennsylvania Department of Education has named Hoover Elementary School a Title I School of Distinction. Our faculty and staff will continue to empower “each child to become a productive citizen and a lifelong learner" by focusing on the following Title I Goals for 2021-2022:

  • The percentage of students in second grade meeting Benchmark on the DIBELS Reading Assessment will increase by 5 percentage points from the Beginning of the Year (BOY) to the End of the Year (EOY) test administration.
  • K-4 teachers will use iReady data to inform their planning in order to meet individual student needs resulting in 90% or more median progress toward Typical Growth on the EOY iReady reading assessment in each grade level.
  • K-4 teachers will use iReady data to inform their planning in order to meet individual student needs resulting in 90% or more median progress toward Typical Growth on the EOY iReady Math assessment in each grade level.

Our district provides Chromebook computers to all of our students. Our students use their Chromebooks to collaborate with their peers at Hoover, in other schools in our district, and in other schools around the world! They also use their Chromebooks to access Clever, the Canvas Learning Management System, and the iReady program. Students are permitted to bring their Chromebooks home with them during the evening, during weekends, and during the summer so that they can access learning programs throughout the year.

I will use a variety of tools to communicate with you during the upcoming school year (YouTube, WeVideo, Zoom, email, newsletters, etc.). Please follow me on Twitter @david_glennon #HHESRules. I also invite you to review the information that is available on the Hoover website, in the Hoover Hawk Times weekly newsletter, on the Hoover Facebook Page, and on the Hoover PTO Facebook page.

Sincerely,

David S. Glennon, Ph.D.

Principal
