Principal's Message

Hello ASI Students, Parents & Community Members,

I want to take a moment to thank our students for their continued focus on Other People’s Mindset through the Positivity Project. This week’s character strength is Teamwork, and our students are doing an amazing job of demonstrating what it means to “do the right thing, even when no one is looking.” I am so proud of how they are stepping up to support one another both inside and outside of the classroom.

The transition from elementary to middle school is no small task, and our students are meeting these new challenges with courage and maturity. From eating lunch alongside 1,400+ peers instead of the smaller groups they were used to, to adjusting to multiple teachers and class changes every day, to the routines of PE with locker combinations and uniforms—our Bruins are showing resilience and responsibility at every turn. They are doing a fabulous job, and I couldn’t be prouder! A special THANK YOU also goes out to our parents. Your encouragement, reminders, and support at home make a huge difference in helping students successfully navigate these changes.

We are especially grateful for your participation in our Student Body Fall Fundraiser. Thank you for setting goals with your students and allowing them to reach out to family and friends for support. We could not do this without your generosity and commitment to our school community!

Finally, thank you for your continued patience and support during arrival and dismissal. We know the traffic flow can be challenging in the first few weeks, but patterns are improving each day as our community establishes a rhythm and routine.

Together, we are building an incredible year for our students. Thank you for being such an important part of the ASI family.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Carter
ASI Principal

BLOCK ASI RECOGNITION BLOCK ASI RECOGNITION

Yearlong Program

Block ASI is a special honor that recognizes students who excel in the areas of Mind, Body, and Spirit.

This award is open to all 7th and 8th grade students, and we encourage parents to work with their students throughout the year to make it part of their school journey. Whether or not a student ultimately earns the award, striving toward it enriches and enhances their educational experience.

To earn credit in the Mind category, students must participate on an Academic Team. This year, many of our academic teams will begin virtually. While competitions are tentative, students who attend online practices and actively participate will still receive credit toward Block ASI.

Applications are available beginning Friday, September 5th in the Kodiak Cluster.

They are also attached for you to download and print if you prefer.

CJSF CJSF

The California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) is a nation-wide honor society recognized by companies and institutions that award scholarships. Alta Sierra Intermediate has formed a chapter of CJSF. It is an honor service club to which one who qualifies may apply. Students who qualify are not automatically members; students must apply to be a member. To qualify, students must earn three As and two Bs in classes other than P.E. and specific electives. Alta Sierra Intermediate students who qualify may apply for membership for the first three (3) semesters (Fall 7th, Spring 7th and Fall 8th). A donation of $5 is requested for each qualifying semester. All students who qualify all three semesters will be awarded a certificate and a pin at their 8th grade awards assembly.

Applications can be picked up in the Kodiak cluster office. Students can contact Mrs. Zunich in room 604 if they have any questions.

Own Your Voice: Building Skills and Speaking Up For Success

Last week, all 7th grade students had their first School Counseling Lesson of the year taught by ASI Counselors, Ms. Mennucci and Mrs. Tenney. The lesson focused on identifying personal, social, and academic skills, gaining awareness of strengths and areas for growth and list possible experiences they may be interested in trying to enhance their overall experience at Alta Sierra. Students also learned about self-advocacy strategies, and identified trusted adults and resources available on campus to help them succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Students logged into CaliforniaColleges.edu for the first time. This app, available on Clever, is their personalized college and career exploration portal that they will be utilizing through 12th grade.

American School Counseling Standards taught:

M1 - Belief in the development of the whole self, including a healthy balance of mental, social/emotional, and physical well-being

B-SS8 - Advocacy skills for self and others, and the ability to assert oneself when necessary
