Trojan Weekly 10/19/2026
October's Theme is LEADERSHIP
Dear AME Families,
Welcome back. It was good to have the building full again this week, and the kids came back from break ready to work.
Next week is a busy one, with lots of academics and fun. Good News Club starts up Monday afternoon. Wednesday is a minimum day for staff PLCs. Friday night is the Monster Mash Dance, and our MPC parent club has been working hard to get the gym ready for it. Bring your little monsters, ghules or other creative costumed kids and come dance with us.
Two more things worth celebrating. The VUSD Board is recognizing our girls’ basketball team for their undefeated season on Wednesday evening at Avery Middle School, and the girls have their end of season party Thursday afternoon. Those 13 girls earned every bit of it.

Notes:
- The gym will be closed Friday afternoon while we set up for the Monster Mash.
- Please be extra careful driving through Penn Gulch Crosswalk, the sun is blinding in the mornings this time of year.
- Please do not park or drop off/pick up in the upper lot. It is for staff and special education parents with permits only. Use Feeney Park for all pick up, parking and drop off.
- Communicate directly with your teacher about after school plans. There’s no need to call the office; an email, note or Remind message to the teacher works perfectly.
- For safety reasons, AME students may not cross Highway Four without a parent or guardian.
Lady Trojan Basketball - Undefeated Champions
Lady Trojans Are Undefeated Champions! 🏆
Our Lady Trojans did it! With a win over cross mountain rival HFE and a hard fought victory against the Jenny Lind Cougars this week, our girls finished the season undefeated and earned the championship title.
These girls showed up with heart, hustle, and teamwork all season long, and we could not be prouder of them. Our champions will be honored at next week’s board meeting, where each player will receive a Lady Trojan Championship Shirt.
A big thank you to Coaches Todd, Mike, and Tom for the time, energy, and care they poured into this team. Thank you to AD Mac for keeping our athletics program running strong. To our families, thank you for the tremendous support all season, from the rides to practice to the cheering in the stands. And thank you to MPC for funding the championship shirts and for always having our kids’ backs.
Congratulations, Lady Trojans! 💙🖤
Go Trojans!

💙🤍 TERRIFIC TROJAN STAFF FEATURE
TERRIFIC TROJANS STAFF FEATURE: MR. DAVE HARRIS!
Let’s hear it for Mr. Harris!
This week, we’re shining our Terrific Trojans spotlight on Mr. Dave Harris, who is bringing his experience, enthusiasm, and love of learning to Michelson Elementary for his SECOND year as a proud Michelson Trojan!
With 15 years of teaching experience under his belt, Mr. Harris has worn many hats in the classroom, teaching 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, as well as STEAM! Talk about a teacher who knows how to keep things moving, keep students thinking, and keep learning exciting!
When asked about his favorite part of teaching, Mr. Harris shared that it’s watching the growth that happens throughout the school year. From those first-day jitters to those amazing moments when everything finally clicks, seeing students learn, grow, and discover what they’re capable of is what makes teaching so rewarding. And that’s something worth celebrating!
When the school bell rings and Mr. Harris trades the classroom for the great outdoors, you might find him hiking a trail, biking through the scenery, camping under the stars, or hitting the slopes on his snowboard!
This adventurous Trojan has his sights set on another big goal: traveling more and exploring all the amazing places the world has to offer!
We’re so happy to have Mr. Harris as part of our Michelson Trojan family! Thank you for helping our students grow, explore, and reach new heights every day.
Once a Trojan, always a Trojan!
Help us give Mr. Dave Harris a big TROJAN CHEER for being one of our Terrific Trojans Staff Stars!

From The Kitchem
On Thursday, October 22, nutrition specialist Aimee Castro will join our Trojans during lunch for a special presentation all about sugar. Students will grab their lunches and eat while she gives a short talk and demonstration on how much sugar is hiding in everyday foods and drinks. Afterward, everyone gets a treat!
This is part of our Nutrition Education series, and we’ll be back with another fun topic in early spring. It’s a great follow up to our recent health tips about fueling up for the school day, so ask your child what they learned when they get home.

Dressing for Fall Weather
Fall in the mountains means chilly mornings and warm afternoons, sometimes on the same day. A few easy habits help our Trojans stay comfortable and healthy as the weather changes.
Layer up. A t-shirt with a sweatshirt or light jacket on top lets kids adjust as the day warms up. Cold kids have a hard time focusing, and so do kids who are sweating in a heavy coat at noon.
Label everything. Jackets come off at recess and don’t always make it back to the classroom. Writing your child’s name inside coats, sweatshirts, and hats helps us get them home. Our lost and found is already filling up, so stop by if something has gone missing!
Plan for rain. When the first storms roll in, a rain jacket and closed toe shoes make a big difference. Kids still go out at recess on cool days, and dry feet keep them happier all afternoon.
Keep the sunscreen handy. Fall sun is still strong on clear days. A little sunscreen in the morning protects kids during recess and PE.
Dress for outside play. Kids are healthier and sleep better when they get fresh air every day. Clothes they can run, climb, and get a little dirty in let them make the most of recess.
Questions about your child’s health? Nurse Suzi is always happy to help.
Feeney Park Drop Off & Pickup
At many schools drop off and pickup is directly linked to confusion and frustration. However, at AME we have a safe and usually smooth process. This year a staff member will be posted at the Feeney Parking Lot to help with drop off. To see the designated traffic flow, please take a look at the map below depicting our procedure for dropping off and picking up at Feeney Park. In addition, please remember the upper lot is for staff and students with disabilities not for dropping off or picking up. Lastly, please never park adjacent to the red curb. This area is solely for the buses. Thanks so much for keeping our children safe.
