The Washington County Board of Education welcomes Torin Malott as the new Student Member of the Board of Education. Malott officially began his one-year term on July 1, 2026, and will attend his first public business meeting today, Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

As the Student Member of the Board, Malott will represent the voices of WCPS students by sharing their ideas, concerns, and perspectives with the Board of Education.

"I look forward to meeting, connecting with, and empowering students from all across our school district," said Malott. "As my campaign outlined, I intend to work on expanding opportunities, upholding academic equity and accountability, and striving to meet the needs of my peers."

Malott is a lifelong WCPS student and attends Barbara Ingram School for the Arts, where he studies photography and cinematography. He has held several student leadership roles, including President of the Barbara Ingram Student Council Association, Council Chairman of the Hagerstown Youth Council, and President of the Washington County Association of Student Councils (WCASC). He has also served as a certified workshop presenter and executive board member with the Maryland Association of Student Councils.

Throughout his leadership experience, Malott has focused on helping students feel seen, heard, supported, and engaged. As the Student Member on the Board of Education, he looks to expand his understanding of student and staff needs, becoming more familiar with district operations, and spearheading positive change.
