COVID Requirements and Expectations
Updated August 8, 2022

General Reminders
- If you are notified your student has been exposed, keep an eye out for symptoms. If they have any symptoms (see below) use a home test to determine if they are positive for COVID PRIOR to sending them to school. We can also test at school if you do not have test kits at home. They must be tested prior to going to class if they have active symptoms.
- Keep your student home if they are sick! And, call us to report symptoms or positive cases in your household.
- As an option, your student may continue to wear a mask or they can ask for a disposable mask from their teacher.
- If someone in your household is sick with COVID, it's OKAY for everyone to wear masks inside to prevent the spread within your family.
Testing and Notification
We will continue to provide testing at Conway School when students have symptoms or have been exposed to someone with COVID.
Masks
Masks are not mandatory in school settings with a few exceptions. As always, students can continue to wear masks as an option and we have plenty of disposable masks for students.
Students who have active symptoms or test positive while at school will be asked to wear a mask until they are picked up by a parent.
If there is an outbreak or a high number of transmissions in a school or cohort at school, the CDC recommends masking for everyone. If this occurs we will connect with families about our requirements and recommendations for masking.
The state guidelines have changed some on days 6-10 of the isolation period. Conway School is asking students and staff that return to school during the last days of their isolation to wear a mask if they have symptoms.
How long does isolation last?
If you tested positive for COVID-19 and have symptoms, isolate for at least 5 days after your symptoms first appeared. You can leave isolation after 5 full days if:
- Your symptoms are improving 5 days after the start of your isolation, and
- You have not had a fever for 24 hours without use of fever-reducing medication, and
- You should continue to wear a well-fitting mask around others at home and in public for 5 additional days (through day 10).
If you continue to have a fever or your other symptoms have not improved after 5 days of isolation, wait to end your isolation (10 days) or until you are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and your other symptoms have improved. If you test positive with a Rapid Antigen test during days 6-10 you must isolate at home until day 10.
If you tested positive for COVID-19 but have not had any symptoms, isolate for at least 5 days* after you tested positive for COVID-19. You can leave isolation after 5 full days if you meet the same requirements listed above.
If you develop symptoms after testing positive, your isolation period should start from the day symptoms began. Follow the recommendations above for ending isolation.
*If you cannot wear a well-fitting mask: You should isolate at home for 10 days after your symptom onset date (or date tested for COVID-19 if asymptomatic).
Exposure to COVID:
- While it is not required, it is highly recommended that individuals wear a mask for 10 days after exposure and test as soon as possible after exposure. Retesting recommended every 24-48 hours for 5 days after exposure due to the incubation period of COVID
- If someone has symptoms but tests negative, they should retest every 24-48 hours through at least day 5 to ensure their illness is not COVID
**To determine your starting and ending date for isolation see the calculator below.
Monitoring, Masking, and Testing after Exposure
DOH no longer requires exposed students, children, and staff to quarantine. "To protect their school or child care community, students, children and staff, regardless of vaccination status, who are potentially exposed to COVID-19 should:"
- Monitor for symptoms, AND
- Test* as soon as possible after exposure and then repeat testing every 24-48 hours through at least the first 5 days after exposure AND
- Students, children, and staff who spend time indoors with individuals at risk for getting very sick with COVID-19 should wear a well-fitting mask for 10 days after exposure.
- Those with ongoing household exposure should test every 24-48 hrs until 5 days after last positive household members isolation has ended.
Follow the Symptom Decision Tree flowchart linked above.
"Exposed students, children, and staff may continue to take part in all in-person instruction and care, including sports, performing arts, and other extracurricular activities, as long as they do not have symptoms or test positive. If an exposed student, child, or staff member develops symptoms, they should test and are required to immediately isolate at home following the guidance listed under "Isolation" above.
*Individuals who have been recently infected (within the past 90 days), should use a rapid antigen test rather than a PCR test, as PCR results may remain persistently positive for a period of time even if there is not a new, active infection.
