PLEASE JOIN US ON THURSDAY 13TH AT 3:30PM TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PRINCIPAL PROFILE FOR THE NEXT PRINCIPAL OF WHITAKER

I am writing this message to inform our community that I am retiring from EPISD as principal of Whitaker in June. I have been at EPISD for 32 years. Being the principal of Whitaker for the last 10 years has been a very rewarding experience, and I will miss our Rainbows dearly.

I plan to spend lots of time with my family, take care of my health, and go back to doing the things I enjoyed when I had more time in my day. I plan to do as much reading as I can, go back to my evening walks, and reconnect with friends that have also retired from their careers.

I want to thank you for sharing your children with us and for the wonderful memories I have accumulated throughout the years. I always thought Whitaker was the best place to be a principal and I never wanted to serve anywhere else. I’m proud of the accomplishments we have had and the obstacles we have overcome over the years. The connections I've formed with our students and staff have enriched my life more than I can covey in a letter. Each morning greeting, every celebration of student achievement, and all the moments of growth we've shared as a school will forever hold a special place in my heart.

While this farewell brings a mix of emotions; I know Whitaker will continue to B.E.A.M Excellence and Embrace Learning Experiences and Growth Opportunities! It has been an absolute privilege to serve Whitaker.

Hello PreK3 Families!

We want to send a huge thank you to all the parents who joined us for Parent-Teacher Conferences! We truly appreciate you taking the time to connect with us and support your child’s learning journey.

Every day in PreK3 is an adventure filled with purposeful play and exciting learning! If your little one tells you they "just played" all day, rest assured—there’s so much more happening behind the scenes! Our activities are carefully designed to spark curiosity, build essential skills, and create a love for learning. Through play, our students are growing in their ability to communicate, express emotions, and form positive relationships with friends and teachers.

Most importantly, we are dedicated to making sure every child feels safe, happy, and valued as part of our Rainbow community. Thank you for your continued support, patience, and trust in us. We’re so grateful to be part of your child’s early learning experience!

With joy,
Mrs. Zuniga & Ms.Fierro

Dear Third Grade Parents,

We have had a great beginning to the second half of the school year. Thank you for coming to the student-led conferences. Your involvement in your child’s education is highly appreciated. We thank you that you are sending your child to school because attendance is critical to your child’s learning. We have taken our Spring Interim Assessment for reading and math. The data taken from these assessments will show us what the students have learned and what we still need to work on in order to close the learning gap. We are so happy to announce intersession tutoring from March 5-7. During this time we will be focusing on the skills needed based on the interim assessments in order for your child to be successful at the end of the year. We are approaching STAAR test for Reading and Math in April and the student attendance is crucial for your child to learn the necessary skills for the school year. We appreciate all your hard work and the dedication you have to your child education.

Wishing you the best from the awesome Third Grade Team 😊

Greetings from your fourth-grade team!

We have completed the first semester of school and are now working in our third semester. In the upcoming weeks, we will be learning all about fractions in math. We will compare, add, subtract and look to see if fractions are equivalent. We ask if you could please help students with understanding these concepts. We will also be looking at understanding how key details help readers to find the central idea. In science, we will be looking at the water cycle, weather, and climate. As always, we look forward to spending our day with your children and await the fun times ahead.

Fifth Grade is always on the move!

This month, we are reading Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and learning about plays and drama. It is also very important that we are practicing our writing, as well as our revising and editing skills! We then continue with Math, in which we are finding the volume of 3D shapes. We are getting ready to build our own math city with volume. In Science, we have been learning about the process of sedimentary rocks and the formation of fossil fuels, and we are currently studying the water cycle. This month, we have made our own sedimentary rocks using cereal, and we enjoyed the performance of El Paso Symphony orchestra. We are also learning about the war of 1812 and the Louisiana Purchase.

Thank you to all the students for working so hard!
