Message from the Superintendent
Dear Northview Families,
Thank you to all the parents and guardians who attended parent/teacher conferences last week. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with you for the success of our students.
I hope your family enjoyed the long weekend. As a reminder, our faculty and staff will participate in all-day professional learning next Monday, November 3, so you will have another long weekend!
Yesterday I attended the Northview High School Vocal Music Coffee Concert... such incredible student talent! If you missed this performance, you have another chance to see our students perform as Northview Drama presents: Ten November on November 7 & 8 and the Northview High School Veterans Day Concert on November 9. If you haven't attended a student performance, I highly recommend it!
As our students and staff prepare this week to enjoy Friday's Halloween festivities, I'd like to wish everyone a safe and fun Halloween weekend!
Warm regards,
Dr. Christina Hinds
Our Best. Your Best.
Kent ISD Regional Enhancement Millage - Nov. Election
In 2017, the taxpayers approved a regional enhancement millage to support local public schools within the Kent ISD boundaries. Since then, local school districts including Northview has used these funds to support many initiatives. For more information on those initiatives, please visit this website.
Set to expire in the 2026-2027 school year, the enhancement millage proposal would renew 0.8498 mill and restore 0.0502 mill that was reduced as required by state law, allowing a total of 0.9 mill to be levied for another 10 years.
The millage rate is 0.9, the same millage rate voters approved in 2017. If approved, this proposal generates an estimated $35.6 million, approximately $357 per student.

Spotlight on Safety: Bus Safety
Each day in Michigan, there are 15,000 school buses transporting 700,000 children for more than 900,000 miles. At Northview, our 13 school buses transport over 1,200 students more than 800 miles each and every school day!
The Operation Safe Stop (OSS) initiative has a twofold objective:
(1) to raise awareness of the danger for children when drivers violate the law requiring them to STOP for a school bus loading or unloading children, and
(2) to educate children, parents, school staff, and motorists about the school bus zone, danger zone, safe walking, and key school bus safety rules and tips.
Please join us in caring for our students by being extra cautious around school buses and obeying all traffic laws. Additional information about OSS can be found at Michigan.gov/SchoolBusSafety.

Student Bus Safety Training
The Northview Transportation Department also conducts trainings each fall to ensure that our youngest students remain as safe as possible while on the bus. Recently Director of Transportation Tim Christian, Bus Safety Coordinator Sarah Graham and Northview bus drivers visited each elementary school to conduct trainings. Each class of students came out to the parking lot for 30 minutes of safety awareness training.
Spotlight on Northview Next Career Center
Northview Next is a program of Northview Public Schools, which expands career pathways and flexible learning options for high school students. To help all students ages 15-20 earn a NVPS diploma, regardless of their circumstances, Northview Next offers two distinct learning options.
One of these options, the Northview Next Career Center, focuses on skills-based classes, internships, and exposure to a variety of industries. A key component of the Northview Next Career Center is our SACA lab (Smart Automation Certification Alliance, which provides students with hands-on experiences in a variety of manufacturing settings. This lab enables students to earn industry recognized competencies for career readiness. To learn more about this exciting program, please view the video below.
