Principal's Newsletter

Principal's Newsletterby Robin D. Croteau M.Ed
It seems like January is already flying by! This is proving to be a very busy month with a lot on our school agenda. This week we began our winter NWEA testing and our elementary classes continued with their mid-year diagnostic assessments as well. This data point is important for seeing how student learning has progressed since the beginning of the year because it drives our instruction and intervention practices. The three data points provided yearly by our internal NWEA testing also meet the new state requirement under Ed 306 legislature that now defines adequate public education resources and practices.

Winter weather has allowed some of our students to take advantage ski and ride program offered through Mt. Sunapee. Additionally, LCS staff members have been busy planning our on-site Winter Activity Day for February 2nd! More details on this will be out soon. This month we have begun finalizing plans for next year. This includes the proposed budget, anchor high school contracts, transportation services and our school calendar. We do have an anticipated opening for the 2026-2027 school year for the position of School Board Secretary. Sue Lichty will be retiring from this position at the end of this school year and we are in need of someone to take the minutes. If you are interested position which includes a stipend, please reach out to Superintendent Lewis!

Finally, we are overjoyed to welcome back Mrs. Robinson, our full-time bus driver from her maternity leave! Next week should be "back to normal" for our transportation schedule. A huge thank you goes out to Dave Thomas (our transportation manager), Mrs. Child's, Mr. Tim and Mrs. Shepard for driving for us over the past month and a half. While it took a little bit longer, I am proud to say that we were able to provide transportation for all students who needed it on days when the bus was not available to us.

Please don't forget to mark your calendar for Tuesday, February 10th at 5:30 p.m. for our school budget hearing and Saturday, March 7th for the Lempster Town Meeting!

Longer Days Start the Growing Season for 4th Grade.

This week Ms. Clough's 4th students began growing 144 lettuce plants in the hydroponic farm that was gifted to us through a grant last year! This year the "farm" will be utilized to grow Romaine, Green Star Lettuce and Basil. After this Ms. Clough hopes the class can experiment with growing other vegetables and flowers. Through this classroom activity students will learn alternative ways to farm that can be more productive and have less of an environmental impact on the land. We all look forward to what clean and healthy foods will be available for tasting!

Decreasing District Cell Phones

In looking at our budget the main office and SAU decided yesterday to disconnect two school cell phone lines that are no longer utilized frequently. The school's main office cell phone and athletic director's cell phone are no longer necessary due to apps such at Dojo, SportsU and Apptegy (our website and messaging system) which allow for instant communication from anywhere without compromising staff privacy. The school's main phone line (603-863-1080), staff email (first letter and last name @sau71.org) and the preferred apps shared by your child's teacher are the best ways to communicate with us! Please let us know if your phone number or email changes mid-year so we can ensure you are part of our district-wide messaging system!
