6th Grade Orientation to JTMS
June 2
Hello Grade 6 Families,
Your child should be bringing home a permission slip for our upcoming Middle School Orientation Day on June 2nd.
As part of their transition to middle school, students will visit Jackson Township Middle School for an orientation program. During their visit, they will hear an informational presentation and take a guided tour of the school to help them become familiar with their new environment as they prepare for this exciting next step.
Please complete and return the permission slip to your child’s homeroom teacher as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support as we help our students prepare for a successful transition to middle school!

State Testing Information - May 12, 13, 14
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we prepare for the upcoming NJSLA testing, we want to share a few simple ways you can support your child at home. While we work with students each day in school, your support in helping them feel rested, prepared, and confident truly makes a difference.
The Night Before Testing
- Encourage a good night’s sleep by sticking to a normal bedtime routine
- Limit screen time before bed to help students wind down
- Have your child pack their Chromebook and charger before going to sleep
- Help them choose comfortable clothing (layers are helpful)
The Morning of Testing
- Provide a healthy breakfast (a mix of protein and carbohydrates helps with focus and energy)
- Arrive at school on time to avoid a rushed or stressful start
- Offer positive encouragement—simple words like “Do your best” can go a long way
Be Prepared
- Ensure your child brings a fully charged Chromebook each day
- Send their charger, just in case
- Headphones/earbuds will be provided but they are encouraged to bring their own
Helping with Mindset
- Remind your child that this is just one way we measure learning
- Encourage them to take their time and put forth their best effort
- Let them know it’s okay to feel a little nervous—that’s normal
During the Testing Window
- Try to maintain consistent routines each day
- Avoid late arrivals or absences whenever possible
- Keep mornings calm and predictable
After School
- Students may feel more tired than usual—this is normal
- Provide time to relax and recharge
- Maintain a consistent bedtime to support the next day
Our goal is for every student to feel comfortable, confident, and supported throughout the testing process. We will start testing promptly at 9:25. When testing concludes we will operate the rest of the day on a delayed opening schedule.
Thank you for partnering with us to help your child be ready to do their best.
Sincerely,
Debra Phillips
Principal
Attendance
Regular attendance is vital for student achievement. Decisions on placement are based primarily on data based on school benchmark assessments, marking period grades and in some cases daily attendance in school.
Please be mindful that when students miss school for reasons other than illness, it may put them behind in their studies and delay academic achievement.
Linewize - Technology Monitoring System
Earlier this school year, the Jackson School District implemented a new web filtering and safety system called Linewize. This system helps us maintain a safe and supportive digital learning environment for our students.
Linewize monitors activity on district-issued devices and flags certain keywords or phrases that may require further review. When a search is flagged, district administrators receive a notification that includes the student ID number, the date and time of the activity, the category of concern, and an image of the search that was conducted. This system operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help ensure student safety.
Keywords are grouped into several categories, including:
-
Violence toward oneself or others
-
Weapons
-
Bullying
-
Threats
-
General risk
-
Offensive language
Students may sometimes encounter these flags when using AI tools, chat boxes, or conducting searches online if certain words or phrases are entered. In some situations, school administrators may follow up with the student and, if necessary, contact parents to better understand the context of the search.
We encourage families to take a moment to talk with their child about using their school-issued Chromebook responsibly. Thoughtful and appropriate use of technology helps ensure that our devices remain powerful tools for learning.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping us support safe and responsible digital citizenship for all students.
Students were additionally presented with this information in their classes this week. Repeated misuse of technology may result in student discipline.
Moving?
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS - IF YOU ARE MOVING, WE MUST BE INFORMED
If you are moving from one house to another within Jackson:
You must provide proof of address change to the school registrar so we can update your records, alter your bus stop (if applicable) and determine if your child needs to be reassigned to another school. It is your responsibility to let us know of any address change immediately. You can reach one of our school registrars on the Registering Your Child webpage.
If you are moving out of Jackson during the school year and have a child in 12th grade:
Students in 12th grade whose parent or guardian have moved away from the school district on or after July 1st will be permitted to finish their Senior Year in Jackson with a discounted cost of tuition. These rates will be updated on the District Tuition Program webpage once established by the Board of Education. If you are moving and choose this option, you still need to let your high school guidance office know, but your high school senior will be allowed to finish their high school career here in Jackson. You will need to provide your own transportation.
If you are moving out of Jackson during the school year and have a child in grades PK-11:
Under a newly revised district policy, students in grades Preschool - 11th grade whose parent or guardian have moved away from the school district will be permitted to finish the year in this school district with payment of tuition. The student must maintain good standards of citizenship and discipline in order to remain in district.
Please see the new District Tuition Program webpage for more details or contact Assistant Superintendent Robert Rotante at 732-833-4604 or rjrotante@jacksonsd.org.
