Leyden hosts school safety week
Safety Week starts tomorrow, Tuesday, September 2. The drills practiced during the week meet state requirements and help Leyden students and staff know what to expect should an emergency arise. Please note that there may be a visible presence from the first responders during the drills.
We recognize that running drills, particularly an active threat drill, may prompt many different feelings. Students who may have concerns or need additional support during this week should reach out to the Deans office.
Freshmen required to meet health requirements
State school code requires all ninth grade and new students to provide proof of a physical examination and mandatory immunizations prior to October 15. Seniors require their second meningococcal conjugate or (MenACWY) immunization after the age of 16. If a student does not comply before October 15th, they will be subject to exclusion from school. We ask for families to help in ensuring these requirements are addressed as soon as possible. Please contact East Leyden Nurse's office at mcuevas@leyden212.org or West Leyden Nurse's office at rkazmierczak@leyden212.org with any questions.
Leyden initiates strategic planning process
Community invited to share insights to guide the next five years
Starting this summer, Leyden launched a strategic planning process which includes gathering insights from parents, students, staff and the school community. This research and planning phase will take place throughout the fall semester. Upon the presentation of the findings, Leyden will design a multi-year strategic plan to guide the efforts of the next five years.
During the first week of September, students and staff will have the opportunity to share input on the future of Leyden, through a series of focus groups. Then, in October, parents and community members will also have the opportunity to engage with the strategic planning team to provide insights to help guide our school district.
Bilingual parent meetings begin in September
The Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC) for Spanish and Ukrainian speaking families is dedicated to supporting parents of multilingual learners. Its mission is to provide parents with resources, information, and support needed to help their students succeed academically. BPAC offers workshops, meetings, and events where parents can learn about educational programs, share experiences, and collaborate with our Leyden faculty.
