Academics
Reading & Language Arts
This January, students will strengthen their reading skills by practicing how to make connections between two texts and by comparing and contrasting how different authors address similar ideas, experiences, topics, and themes. Students will also begin Module 5: Art Everywhere, centered around the essential question, “How far can your talent take you?” Our genre focus for this module will be biography, as students explore real-life stories of artists and creators.
In grammar, students will work with modal auxiliaries and review pronouns, present participles, irregular verbs, helping verbs, and the verb to be. For writing, students will respond to prompts with a focus on informational writing, using facts and clear explanations to support their ideas.
Math
Science
In Science, we will explore how Earth’s natural resources change Earth’s surfaces, the advantages and disadvantages of using them, and how their conservation, disposal and recycling can impact the environment and modern life. In the first lesson of Chapter 6, students will model and describe slow changes to Earth’s surface caused by weathering from wind, water and ice. In the second lesson, students will model and describe slow changes to Earth’s surface caused by erosion and deposition from water, wind, and ice. In lesson 3, students will identify and explain the advantages and disadvantages of using Earth’s renewable and nonrenewable resources.
