4TH GRADE
We've had another great week! In Science we are finishing up mixtures and solutions and will be moving on to exploring energy. We have had lots of hands-on practice. Please have your child explain to you what we have been learning.
In Math, we have been amazingly busy. This week we have been practicing multiplying multi-digit numbers and we have been multiplying by 10 and 100. We are really focusing on mental math and multiple ways of doing things to calculate the same answer. Many of the 4th graders need to review their multiplication facts at home as they are struggling with multiplication and division. Please help them review at home--they can even find fun math practice online. 🙂
In 5th grade science we are also finishing up mixtures and solutions. We, too, have been making observations and drawing conclusions. We will also be moving into the unit on energy. We will be looking in depth at the types of energy that exist. Please have your child communicate to you everyday observations about common things in the world around you.
Thank you for sharing your children with me!

5TH GRADE
In ELAR, we have been working through determining what the author's purpose is. We just started a novel study reading a fabulous novel, Number the Stars by Lois Lowery. We are using this novel to dive deeper into the author's purpose and author's craft. We will be looking at how the author uses types of literary devices in her writing and why she uses them.
In Social Studies, we are breaking up with Great Britain. Not really, but we are going over American Independence and what that looked like in the early colonies. We are learning about our founding fathers and their impact on the early United States.
A few Reminders:
Please send your child with their water bottle every day.
Spelling Test every Thursday! New words will go home on Thursday as well.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are on October 11th! I will be finding out times for these and will put it in Class Dojo. Please let me know if you have a specific time that works best for you.
Please be sure your child is reading a minimum of 20 minutes every school night. Please make sure to sign their reading logs as well which are in their folders that are sent home every day. Readers are leaders!
Thanks!
