A Message from the GrACE Executive Director
Dear GrACE Apostles,
As this school year draws to a close, GrACE thanks you—for your faith, your perseverance, and your unshakable commitment to Catholic education. Across Alberta and the Northwest Territories, you have testified to the reason for your hope—and your witness has not gone unnoticed.
As we look ahead to 2025–2026, we do so under a theme that speaks directly to our moment in history:
“Anchored in Christ, Beacon of Hope” (Hebrews 6:19).
In an age marked by drift, division, and disillusionment, Catholic schools must be steady and radiant. To be anchored in Christ is to be unshaken by the storms of culture, grounded in truth, and nourished by the Eucharist. To be a beacon of hope is to shine—not with the light of the world, but with the light of Christ, drawing others toward Him through the witness of our schools, our communities, and our lives.
This is not just a theme. It is a call: to form disciples, to renew culture, and to hand on the faith without compromise.
As you enter into the summer months, may you find rest, renewal, and grace. And when the new school year begins, may we return—anchored, ablaze, and ready for mission.
May Christ be your anchor. May your life be a beacon of hope!
Blessings and much love,
Jesus, I trust in You.
Kate

The Student Becomes the Teacher: Gen Z’s Prophetic Witness
In Catholic education, we often speak of formation—shaping young hearts and minds in the light of Christ. But something remarkable is happening in this moment: the students we thought we were forming are now forming us.
Across Canada and beyond, young people are not just receiving the faith—they are proclaiming it. They are not merely being taught—they are teaching. Their witness is calling the Church to remember who she is.
They carry an instinct for authenticity, a hunger for the Eucharist, and a boldness to live Catholic identity in public.
They are not afraid to ask the hard questions—and they are even less afraid to live the answers.
When students proclaim Christ with clarity and conviction, they remind us parents, clergy, and educators why we believe.
They are not just the future of the Church—they are its present moment of grace.
We are witnessing the rising of a generation not content with lukewarm faith. They want the real thing. And in that desire, they are teaching the rest of us to want it too!
GrACE Youth Summit 2025: Update and Invitation to Join Virtually
The 2025 GrACE Youth Summit will take place on Friday, October 24 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Sherwood Park.
The event is now fully subscribed for in-person attendance. All student and accompanying staff spots have been filled, and no further in-person registrations can be accepted at this time.
Zoom participation remains open, available on a first come, first served basis for schools, parishes, and communities across Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and the Yukon.
This year’s theme—“Anchored in Christ, Beacon of Hope”—invites Catholic youth to encounter Christ in the Eucharist, claim their Catholic identity, and step boldly into faith-filled leadership.
The summit will feature keynote messages, youth testimonies, and will be anchored in sacramental grace through the celebration of the Eucharist, presided over by Bishop Gary Franken, Chair of GrACE and Bishop of the Diocese of St. Paul.
If your school submitted registration within the past week and has not yet received in-person confirmation, please note that some divisions are still finalizing accompanying staff numbers.
There may be minor adjustments, but at this point, all in-person spots are considered filled. We will contact you directly if space becomes available.
- For schools confirmed for in-person attendance: Please ensure your parish priest accompanies your delegation to support the liturgical and pastoral aspects of the day.
- For Zoom participants: We encourage you to invite your parish priest or local clergy to help foster a spiritually rich experience in your own community.
If your school has not received in-person confirmation, please proceed to register for Zoom access, and confirm your numbers as soon as possible by email: gracedirector7@gmail.com.
Thank you for your partnership in this mission. Together, we continue to form young disciples—anchored in Christ and radiant with hope.
Pre-Summit Formation:
GrACE encourages all schools to engage students in preparation for the summit by:

Additional Information::
- Lunch will be provided on-site. Please submit dietary restrictions in advance to:
Stacey McNeil – smacneilayeh@redeemer.ab.ca - Travel arrangements remain the responsibility of each division.
- The summit will be photographed and livestreamed. Schools are responsible for ensuring appropriate media consent is in place.
- Zoom participants will have live access to keynote addresses, youth testimonies, praise and worship, and the Eucharistic celebration.
2025–2026 Catholic Education Theme:
“Anchored in Christ, Beacon of Hope” (Hebrews 6:19)
This year’s theme for the new school year is more than a slogan—it’s a shift in posture. It challenges us to move from maintenance to mission, from protecting what we have to boldly proclaiming who we are. To be anchored in Christ is to place our trust not in changing trends or cultural approval, but in the unchanging truth of Jesus Christ and the sacramental life of the Church. To become beacons of hope means living and leading in a way that draws others toward that truth—with clarity, courage, and joy. In a time of uncertainty, Catholic education stands as a visible sign of conviction, compassion, and Christ-centred purpose.
In Preparation to for the Year Ahead:
As promised before the close of the school year, and in preparation for the year ahead, GrACE is pleased to share the following spiritual and advocacy resources to support our Catholic education community in 2025–2026.
Rooted in our new theme “Anchored in Christ, Beacon of Hope,” these materials are offered to help unify and inspire schools, parishes, and families as we move more intentionally from maintenance to mission.
