Arts and Athletic Project and Ag2School Credit

Ag2School Credit (in state aid) will cover 41% of the Arts and Athletics Project in Windom if approved by voters on May 13. In rural Minnesota, we are fortunate to have access to funding from the state called Ag2School Credit. This is a tax break for those who own agricultural land because ag land makes up the majority of real-estate in rural districts. Ag2School credit has been around since 2017 and grown in state contribution over time. Today it covers 70% of the agricultural land's tax increase due to school projects such as ours. Here's how the math works:

  • 60% of our tax base is farmland.

60% of the $27.5M is $16.5M. This would be the amount ag land owners would pay, but Ag2School accounts for 70% of the ag land increase.

  • 70% of $16.5M is $11.5M in State Aid (approximately 41% of the project).

  • Of the $27.5 million, $11.5 million will be covered in state aid through Ag2School Credit. This leaves local tax payers with $16 million to fund for $27.5 million worth of facilities.

Naming Rights

Naming Rights for portions of the Arts and Athletic Project are available for businesses, groups, or individuals to purchase. These tax deductable donations will be collected only if the referendum passes on May 13. Money raised through Naming Rights will be used to make enhancements to the project.
