Do you know...?

...the Earth is spinning on its axis at a speed of approximately 1,040 miles per hour (mph) at the equator, and it spins around the sun at a rate of 66,660 miles per hour! This speed decreases as you move toward the North or South Poles, where the speed is nearly zero. The Earth is always in motion. Although it seems like we are standing still on the Earth's surface, the Earth is spinning on its axis and orbiting the sun. We can't feel it because it's a constant motion, just like being in an airplane. We are moving at the same rate as the plane, so we don't feel like we're moving at all.

    • Tips for staying safe this season:
      • Give yourself extra time so you’re not rushing
      • Drive slowly and increase your following distance
      • Stay alert for pedestrians, especially near schools and crosswalks
      • Walk like a penguin – take short flat-footed steps to avoid slipping
